I, too, have a lot of shows that would be well over 25 episodes per season. Weekly wrestling at 50+ episodes per year, sports, that sort of thing.

Best to shut down the server when you remove the db.

I think that any series that has large amounts of episodes in one season, should remain in the exclude list until we implement some sort of fix for very large seasons.

I don't have many of the shows that dump their entire episode list into one season but I do have a handful like One Piece/Boruto that do have some seasons with well over 100 eps 
But I also have a slightly larger handful that have around 50-60 eps per season

Also, is there any way to improve the loading of series lists? I have a rather large collection (little under 2000 shows/5381 seasons) and it's next to impossible to load the settings page for this plugin  Chromium based browsers don't stand a chance and Firefox is the only browser that seems to cope well enough to load the lists about 90% of the time but each time it wants to load the list of shows, it takes anywhere from 30-300 seconds (if it's successful at all). And given that adding or removing a show from the exclusion list reloads the show list with every change... It would probably take me a week just to configure the list

For the moment - anything above 30 may cause issues - depending on how much memory you have to play with.

With regards to loading the lists - do you mean the first 'Activity' tab in the Plugin ?

We have not had any reports of this being an issue - I have about 600 shows, and that loads in ~2 seconds in Edge.

During the 'load' is anything  else happening on your system ?  Any high cpu or disk I/O ?  This request is just doing an Emby sql query to get all the TV shows, it's not doing anything special at this point .. Hmm @chef ?

Just to be open - the Plugin was designed for TV Shows with one Intro and one Credit Sequence per episode - if you start trying to use it for TV Recordings (of non 'shows') and Sports recordings - the results may not be good.    

We need to do some more testing in this area - but as an example, Adverts should not be picked up UNLESS they repeat themselves in subsequent Episodes (which they may well do), thus they are seen as an 'Intro'. 

For the moment - I would just exclude them from the scans until we have more data on this.

This depends on the version of ffmpeg used in the Emby build.    For Windows, you'll need to copy the version from the Emby beta (see below) but for other versions of Emby (Linux based) you may well already have the needed version.  The plugin does check for this before it can start - so it will tell you if you have the incorrect version.

Yeah, any settings page that requires the "TV Shows" list to be populated so Activity and Advanced

I thought I'd be smart by adding everything to the exclusion list then going through that and deleting items from the excluded list as I saw fit (so basically just doing things in reverse thinking it might be quicker) but apparently that doesn't help as adding all series to the exclude list makes loading the exclusions page do a GET request for each item individually which in the end just gives the same result

Server side not a whole lot happens and nothing really going on in the background, usually stays pretty idle. Client side though it just takes an eternity. Chromium based browsers will quickly eat up about 5GB of RAM before crashing the page complaining about being out of memory, firefox will at least tough it out, usually reach up to about 8GB of RAM usage. CPU usually doesn't go above around 20% trying to load the page on the client and the system has 32GB of memory and is pretty idle otherwise

I've been trying to work out the problem for about 2 weeks but can't seem to pinpoint the cause  figured it was about time to get some fresh ideas from others on it lol

I thought I'd be smart by adding everything to the exclusion list then going through that and deleting items from the excluded list as I saw fit (so basically just doing things in reverse thinking it might be quicker) but apparently that doesn't help as adding all series to the exclude list makes loading the exclusions page do a GET request for each item individually which in the end just gives the same result

Server side not a whole lot happens and nothing really going on in the background, usually stays pretty idle. Client side though it just takes an eternity. Chromium based browsers will quickly eat up about 5GB of RAM before crashing the page complaining about being out of memory, firefox will at least tough it out, usually reach up to about 8GB of RAM usage. CPU usually doesn't go above around 20% trying to load the page on the client and the system has 32GB of memory and is pretty idle otherwise

I've been trying to work out the problem for about 2 weeks but can't seem to pinpoint the cause  figured it was about time to get some fresh ideas from others on it lol

Hmm very odd - I just looked at the cpu/mem on both my client and server - and loading that page for me, only increases the Edge memory footprint by about 30Mb.  CPU goes up a few % for 1-2 secs - that it.

Have you tried to browse on a different machine or mobile for example ?

In the middle of testing without any other plugins in case one of them may be causing some kind of weird overhead
Using my emby testing VM which is essentially exactly the same setup but on a VM with much less resources assigned to it and running on spinning rust even + running the current emby beta, it seems to load the list reasonably faster? In comparison to what I'm used to I should say.. Still about ~60 seconds or so but again, test VM is on spinning rust... But it also seems to load a lot more consistently and only using about half the amount of RAM 

Oh and apparently I was wrong, I have 2700 series... 
So I decided to try dropping 2 out of the 3 "tv show" libraries which brought the total count down to 766 and there is definitely a significant difference in load time. I mean VERY significant, near instant as you seem to experience, maybe 5 seconds as worst case from the beta VM even after re-enabling all my usual release version plugins

Ah thats interesting - I wonder if we are hitting an upper ceiling somewhere with memory allocation and it's paging out or something like that.

Yeah it's a pretty extensive collection! I have 2x 1m deep 45U server racks, a total of about 18U is used up by compute/networking/ups/not storage related stuff and there is just a 3U space to spare currently, i'll leave the rest up to your imagination lol!
Now just imagine how, i'd say probably half of that, used to look as physical media.. calling the spare shed the "DVD room" was an absolute understatement

Some notes for load times when only 1 of the libraries are active at a time (god i love snapshots, so satisfying rolling back a deletion of an entire library in an instant!)
For the library with 766 shows: 2-5 seconds pretty consistently for a full page load
Anime library which has 1460 series: 17-20 on the first load, 7-10 thereafter as long as there's no refresh/tab isnt closed then it goes back to around 20 for the initial load again. (I was wondering if something like 1000 shows was some kind of magic number or something but apparently not)
Just the childrens library loaded which is around 461 shows: usually basically instant, never longer than 2 seconds to load

regular tv + childrens (1227 shows): first load = 15-20s, consecutive loads (without refreshing the page ie clicking another link in emby and back to intro skip) = 4-6s
All 3 libraries combined: first load is typically no less than 60 seconds, best case scenario was 53 at one point and will always crash chromium browsers without fail, consecutive loads never got any lower either. Not uncommon for it to take anywhere up to 5 minutes or just not finish loading at all
All load time tests were done with "disable cache" unchecked and so far have just been sticking to firefox for testing (usually bounce between brave or vivaldi as my main browsers)

Sorry, my formatting is rather lazy tonight, tried to tidy it up a bit but its been a long day and I'm ready for bed!

By the way, I wouldn't say no to the option to outright disable a library altogether (hopefully also preventing it from even being included in the list even as "excluded" like it does currently). I think the kids will survive without intro skip

If we loaded the drop-down lists with only items that have been scanned, eventually that list will grow to the size of the library, and take just as long to load, as it does when we load the entire series collection all at once.

 

What we could try, is a custom endpoint which returns just the series data needed to fill the list, instead of sending back the entire collection of baseItem data.

I would expect that to load the list faster. I am not sure how much faster. It is worth a try.

Wow, your system is a monster! I'm jealous .

I'll try a custom endpoint specific for the UI to load only data nesessary for the series selectors to load. See if this helps.

Just to be open - the Plugin was designed for TV Shows with one Intro and one Credit Sequence per episode - if you start trying to use it for TV Recordings (of non 'shows') and Sports recordings - the results may not be good.    

We need to do some more testing in this area - but as an example, Adverts should not be picked up UNLESS they repeat themselves in subsequent Episodes (which they may well do), thus they are seen as an 'Intro'. 

For the moment - I would just exclude them from the scans until we have more data on this.

To the extent that any of them are recordings, they're edited to remove commercials.

I think what would help in my specific case (I don't think libraries as large are mine are terribly common let alone the people trying to use intro skip on such a size... ) is being able to pick which library to load?
Given that it loads perfectly when not trying to stuff everything down it's throat all at once

So in my mind the flow would be something along the lines of:
    - Load activity/advanced page 
    - It probably defaults to the first library in the list of tv shows libraries available, I guess based alphabetically I guess? So for me, it would default to loading "Anime", then the Library dropdown would list Anime, Children, TV
    - Just above or next to the current "TV Show" dropdown list, have a "Library" dropdown to let us load a specific library so the layout of the activity page might look like
        - Select Library | Select TV Show | Select Season

It's just getting choked up on the amount of series so I believe if something like that is possible, it would be perfect
No idea if that's a viable option but throwing it out there! You know better than I so I'll check back in the morning and see what you come up with!

ok - so with the assumption that they are recorded from the same 'source' - then I see no reason why they would not behave exactly the same as if they were ripped by blu-ray/dvd or a streaming source (without Adverts)..

A lot of them are ripped from disc releases. My point isn't about the content, just the number of episodes per season, because >25 seems to be an issue for the plugin as it's currently coded.

• Creates a the "SequenceConfigurationFastLoadService", which pretty much returns  only the data necessary to fill the lists in the configuration page. For large libraries it will still take a moment to load, however we are no longer getting entire BaseItem data when all we need is an ID, and a Name. I hope that by making the return data lighter, it will make the load times faster. You can check it out in the swagger too.  The service should be able to be extended to handle loading issues for large libraries.

I don't think we can currently create a sort dropdown in the UI based on root libraries. It would be slightly involved to do it. Best I can do (right now) is try and load the data faster by requesting only what we need.

Under Detection Statistics if "Enable All Stats" is diabled, series which never got scanned show up, in this case the Serie "12 Monkeys" is on my blacklist, because of that they never get scanned.

Maybe you can make a toogle like "Show Unscanned" items or so and by default show only items whicht got scanned.

Another cool think for the Detection Statistics would be a Drop Down Field to select which Serie to Show. As you can see in my Case i have 878 Items in the List, 25 Items per Page Showen makes ~35 Pages. And this makes it hard to finde the right series your searching for in the statistic.

yes i also saw this with the buttons but as i changed a lot of things in style, i don't bothered much about that.

till chef maybe will fix it you could add the following to the custom CSS field in the settings to change the text color of the buttons:

ah - I was going to say that you can just use the first letter(s) of the show (via the keyboard) to jump to it - but then realised it wasn't sorted at all - whoops .. !

I thought I'd be smart by adding everything to the exclusion list then going through that and deleting items from the excluded list as I saw fit (so basically just doing things in reverse thinking it might be quicker) but apparently that doesn't help as adding all series to the exclude list makes loading the exclusions page do a GET request for each item individually which in the end just gives the same result

Server side not a whole lot happens and nothing really going on in the background, usually stays pretty idle. Client side though it just takes an eternity. Chromium based browsers will quickly eat up about 5GB of RAM before crashing the page complaining about being out of memory, firefox will at least tough it out, usually reach up to about 8GB of RAM usage. CPU usually doesn't go above around 20% trying to load the page on the client and the system has 32GB of memory and is pretty idle otherwise

I've been trying to work out the problem for about 2 weeks but can't seem to pinpoint the cause  figured it was about time to get some fresh ideas from others on it lol

I suppose we paginate the list. Feed the exclude list through the new API endpoint with a start index and limit. 

That will lessen the load on the browser.

I’d love to test this out on Roku but am leery of installing the beta version of Emby since it’s live for other users. How stable is it? If that’s not recommended is there a way to get the ffmpeg version required for this plug-in to work?

It took a while but the intro skip process was 100% complete 2 days ago and I'm golden the green box pops up letting you know the intro was skipped.

Of course some shows don't have a skip option but those that do the plugin seems to be working perfectly.

Even those shows that start the intro after 2 to 3 minutes into the show it skips and shows the green intro skip box.

Just an fyi I tested on desk top and nvidia shield as that what we use.
