Would you be able to give an explanation on how to do this as i'm unsure and then i will test after

Thanks

You don't have a Linux file system, you have a Windows file system ?  A symbolic link on Windows (ie make a remote share look like a local file) works ok but has the same issues.

My NAS is more than 7 years old. It does not support SMB v3. Can someone try SMB v2 or v1 if there are differences?

So this issue is not present in Plex. Can someone repeat the tests using Plex under the same conditions as when the test was done using Emby? I hope you don't get banned for this. 😀

My intention is not to advertise Plex is to be able to conclude if it is a hardware limitation.

I have a second nvidia shield pro 2019 running said server with nas as mounted storage to the shield which also runs the plex client. No problem streaming 4K remux files.

The p**x path used is identical of what I used here.

So I have just installed P**X on the same Windows Server - My word what a painful experience but we won't go there - I just installed to prove a point.

Zero issues playing from SMB - Up to 110Mbit/sec.  120Mbit caused it to just go back to the menu.  Transcoding was turned off.

The network read's were totally different to Emby's - the started at > 500 Mbit/sec for maybe a second and then a constant stream based on demand - high action scenes demanding more bandwidth.

So while I'm not going to go there comparing it to Emby, I think from a technical point of view - it is Emby Server for Windows that has the issues here - it is not the network as had now been proven a few times.

To the OP - I guess you have a couple of options right now - a) put Emby Server back on your NAS (using DAS, works fine) or b) Use Emby Server for Ubuntu and mount the SMB drives.

Emby Server for Windows with SMB shares for high bitrate files has issues - whether the Dev's want to acknowledge this I don't know, but I don't really have any more time to spend on this right now.

Indeed, our work ends here. Now it's up to the developers.

I have enabled SMB v3 on my old NAS and mounted the share using SMB v3. The results are still good.

A massive thank you to everyone who has been interested in this topic and trying to resolve the problem, testing etc. Quite incredible and a massive learning curve for me

For now i will/have switched back to my qnap server as it does work until they either fix this or i try ubuntu

No idea about using ubuntu but sounds like id enjoy having a go at getting it working.

Hopefully the devs will come up with an answer as its been proven to work with other software.

Once again thank you

It can also mean Direct Attach Copper, which are the SFP+ cables that I use with ConnectX-2 NICs I have.

Guys with this problem, can you try beta .36 of the Android TV app enabling Pass Direct Path?

Well I tried and it failed. Still stuttering.

I have mounted my qnap storage to the shield.

Connected to the server no issue, enabled direct play.

Another option has network quality 160mb/s

I tried auto and 160.

library path is  \\192.168.0.160\Multimedia\Movies\4k Movies

\\QNAP-TS653a\Multimedia\Movies\4k Movies

Is that UNC path added as an option in your library in Emby server?

Stream type should say "File" in SFN and not http if using direct access.  It appears to work for me because I can shut down Emby server while watching a whole movie and I couldn't do that before

Did you mount that share to the Shield exactly the same way it is defined in your optional network path (QNAP-TS653a)?

I did this

  1. Open settings.
  2. Select storage and reset.
  3. Next, select network Storage.
  4. In available network storage, select your drive.
  5. Click on connect as a registered user.
  6. Enter any username and password for the attached drive.

I then had access to the qnap.

Is this the correct way to mount on a shield?

As far as I can tell it is correct...

Yes, that's correct, but what, exactly did you enter or select for the server?  If you go back into that setting area, what does the location show as?  Is it "QNAP-TS653a"?

The stream type is http. Just tried playing it again. SFN showed this.

Did you enable the option in the Playback settings?
