Hello,

A few months ago i've opened an issue regarding the punctuation problem in iOS & tvOS for the Hebrew languages, you can see the issue here: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby/issues/3137

In the last Beta version i saw that this issue is partialy resolved, now the punctuation appears in the correct way, but sometimes there is a '-' in the end of the line instead of a dot, see photo for example:

But when i play the video in the Chrome browser on my Mac i have the punctuation problem, see photo for example:

Here is the Subtitles file:

Here is Emby Server log file:

Thanks,

Idan

Are you seeing this in both iOS and Apple TV?

Are those two lines spoken by different people?

Also are the subs utf8 encoded?

@@ebr those lines are spoken by one person, it supposed to appear as a dot and not ‘-‘.

Also you can see it in the other screenshot but the punctuation is reversed.

@@Luke yes it’s utf8 encoded, you can see the attached subtitle

Ok so that's on emby theater for windows, which also uses mpv, just like iOS and the apple tv beta.

Unless their subtitle rendering varies per platform, I think that is a good sign that either:

  • It may be fixed by updating our mpv versions for apple
  • Or we may have to ship a custom font with the app for subtitle rendering

On the Chrome browser on Mac the punctuation is reversed.

Well in that situation the browser is doing the rendering.

Will it be fixed for Apple TV and Chrome browser?

Posted

Well for the browser we can easily resolve it by burning them in with transcoding but I suspect you may not like that option.

For the browser, please try Emby Server 4.1.0.9+ once available for your platform.

Have you tried the latest update to the Emby Apple TV app with the new video player?
