Have you checked library access permissions for that emby user?

are  we talking about windows permissions?

the entire directory is open to  HomeGroupUser$ with read/write access

ARGUH... That must have been the problem.

Went to the Users/permissions window, and

I updated them, so hopefully all will rebuild well this time.

they didnt have permissions, as the user was old, and the groups did not appear in them before.

hopefully will work fine... will advise

I actually meant the emby user permissions in emby user setup.

yes, that was the issue.  added permissions there for the main user (general) and it worked fine now.

thanks again, and I appreciate your patience with me.

I will see if I can write up a quick synopsis of problem and solution so this can be added as an FAQ...
