Hi, we are looking into it. Thanks.

Posted (edited)

I am running 1.6.5 (3) en-US on tvOS 16.1 (20K71) on an A2169 4K Apple TV.  Server version 4.7.8.0.

Everything I play results in the following error:

There was an error processing the request.  Please try again later.

this.itemsRefresher.fetchData is not a function.  (In ‘this.itemsRefresher.fetchData()’, ‘this.itemsRefresher.fetchData’ is null)

Playback through the web appears to be fine.  Just Apple TV causing issues.

I was in the process of moving my server to another machine and I thought I had done something wrong but it appears that something else is happening?

Just chiming in here as I am also experiencing this issue.

Emby has worked flawlessly on my Apple TVs for years, and after the recent update will no longer play MKV files.

These files work fine on the browser and also on iPhone / iPad apps.

AC-3 results in black screen, no audio with counter stuck at 0:00; pressing skip back or skip forward will start normal play

EAC-3 & AAC play normally with no issues

Tested with 1080p/h264/sdr, 1080p/h265/sdr, 4k/h265/sdr, 4k/h265/hdr

Same issue.

When I checked the Emby Dashboard while the AppleTV was trying to play, I noticed that the Dashboard showed the video time counting to 8 seconds and then starting at zero again.  Oddly, not all HD movies are affected.  Just the one I wanted to watch last night...

I'm seeing the same issue, but am also facing issues with the same files in Safari. Using the Emby app on MacOS works fine.

Tried switching to MPV on the AppleTV as well, no change.

I also have some movies that play fine, but not sure what the issue is. It seems to affect 4K HDR (10bit) movies, but potentially others as well...

Is there any update on this at all? Disabling mpv has had odd consequences on other apps and the way the apple tv is performing.

Apologies for the disruption. We're hoping to have a new app update out sometime next week.

I don't think that using the native player affects other applications, I've always used it and I've never had any problems.

glad to read this, i feared that Apple with it's 16.x Version could have caused any "damages" in the TV OS Apps.

For the moment the German Magenta (Ger. Telekom) IPTV App is another Media Streaming App that stopps working properly since the 16.x Update

This is one of the reasons why I like the native player, it is more resilient to tvOS changes.

Indeed is best player but subtitles does not work with the Native player... maybe some day they will solve it.

Is this update coming this week since it wasn't out last?

Hi,

are there any news? Emby is a amazing software and I hope this will be fixed soon

This is the problem with Apple... a "bad" release can't easily be rolled back (at least I don't know how to).  For a while on FireTV and Android I sideloaded older versions of the Emby client to work around some bugs... that's the advantage of a platform that allows sideloading I guess.  That and Apple takes time to approve software.

My old fire tv 2nd gen devices won't play x265 natively... so my solution to the AppleTV issue was to purchase a Black Friday sale Chromecast.  It works perfectly and the Emby client is superior to the Apple TV client in my opinion.

I will switch back to the AppleTV once it's fixed.

I've got a friend whose had this problem for some time. I don't have an Apple TV so I can't really look myself to see, what is the approximate current version? Because this blog post is super confusing to me:

https://emby.media/emby-for-apple-tv-168-released.html

Is the version 1.6.8 or 2.1.6? Is that some kind of Apple thing?

Apologies. That was a typo at the time. The latest version is 1.7.0.
