Not working on new Chromecast with Google TV (Android 12 OS)

The App now starts but I get a black screen for 10 secs then crash to the app's homescreen when trying to playback anything (loading circle does not show up either)

Tired on server version 4.8.0.8 and 4.8.0.10

Have to roll back to 2.0.70g for now as the device is being used, will try again over the weekend will enable debug and provide server logs.

The Emby for Android App is trying to playback 4k Content directly, without downscaling/transcoding but the Chromecast with Google TV HD is unable to play it back without stuttering/ black screen - audio only etc. as I believe the hardware may not be capable.

Setting playback quality to 1080P and Below the bitrate of the original file, starts transcoding in 1080p without playback issues but the Dolby/DTS/DTS-HD etc. 5.1 audio isn't passed through to the AVR, instead 2.1 PCM is passed to AVR. (the video quality in this case seems to be fairly bad as well)

Setting Playback quality to 1080P AND Above the bitrate of the original file, plays it back directly in 4k with stuttering/no video etc.

You are correct, that's my bad, my AVR does not seem  to support aac 5.1. the Emby for Android TV app converts it to a supported format (ac3 5.1?) when the option is enabled in the playback settings, Emby for Android does not have that option. Edited the original comment.

More of another fyi as it was not scale to 1080p either it was 720 (1280x532) at about 6Mbps.

Personally think the quality options need to change as there is no such thing as 1080p - 6/5/4Mbps for Emby conversions.

UI was reporting 1080p, didn't take a look at Stats for nerds. Half asleep :), trying to get the logs when everyone who uses the server should be sleeping so there is no extra rubbish from other emby apps/clients.

I am having similar problems trying to use brand new Chromecast with Google TV HD connected to a Samsung TV via HDMI. Using latest Emby app on two different Android devices (Pixel 5a, Samsung tablet), when I click the Chromecast button the TV screen goes black for 30 seconds, and then bombs out to original Google TV main screen, and nothing changes on the app screen on my Android devices. What is the solution to this?

I didn't try casting, but you can install Emby for Android TV on the Chromecast itself (latest version from play store does not work with the HD version yet, you'll have to sideload v2.0.70g, or sideload aptoide store and install it from there). Don't think there is an official link to older .apk's

I didn't try casting, but you can install Emby for Android TV on the Chromecast itself (latest version from play store does not work with the HD version yet, you'll have to sideload v2.0.70g, or sideload aptoide store and install it from there). Don't think there is an official link to older .apk's

I have no idea how to sideload anything to my Chromecast, and I won't even try - it isn't running anything but its own software, and every other casting app (Hoopla, Kanopy, all the Google video apps, Vimeo, etc.) works fine. The problem is with Emby software not the Chromecast built-in software.

I can reproduce the casting to chromecast problem.  I'll have to pick one of these up because it looks like even though the device only supports 1080p, the chromecast developer api's are advertising 4k support and that's why we end up trying to direct play the 4k video.

Well, according to the post above mine it is an issue with Chromecast HD advertising 4k support even though it can't play it back. I gave you a workaround until the devs or google fix the issue, up to you if you want to use it I got no skin in the game.

Glad you're seeing it, too. But there may be a different or additional problem, because I can't even begin the Emby-Chromecast HD connection, prior to selecting any content to stream to the device.

Hi.  Either the  beta release of the app or the standard app should work now.  We cannot be sure when it will be released by Google.

Open Emby Android app on Pixel 5 phone, press Chromecast logo, and the TV (correctly running Chromecast HD) switches to black screen, never gets to Emby, same as before.

Exact same setup and steps work fine at loading and playing from Emby using old Chromecast device.

The beta release you link to works (sideloaded install). But when opening it on Chromecast it says it's a trial version that ends on 1. november. Is it because it's a beta version?

google today released the android 12 update for the 4k version of the Chromecast with Google TV and after the upgrade Emby for ATV 2.0.79g exhibits the same issue mentioned earlier (startups to a black screen and is stuck there).

Is it possible to release the beta versions using the google play store beta program feature? That would make it easier to test without having to sideload

For those of us who are not tech pros, which Emby 'app' is the problem - server (I use Windows version), Android app, or TV app (is that even needed on a Chromecast dongle)?

I can confirm that today's Adroid 12 update broke the release and beta apps.

For me, beta app starts fine but fails to do any playback..
