Luke 37247
guys, sorry to ask such a noob question, but is there an easy idiot-proof tutorial to install emby on docker on synology ds716+? I'd love to use it with my devices, but installing it without docker isnt possible (braswell not supported yet). If you're using docker, it should be the same as any other Docker install of Emby Server. Have you checked our Docker instructions on the website? http://emby.media/linux-server.html It also has a link to a wiki article that you might find helpful. Thanks. Bushy82 4
Hi ciss, I've got Emby running in a docker container on a Synology 415+. For me, i set it all up in the docker gui within DSM. The implemented funcitonality isn't 100%, but for downloading and installing the container and getting it up and running, it works. Updating required using SSH to get a cli for docker, but that's a challenge for future-ciss. See this post for my container settings. Adding the Auto_update variable does nothing. All the volumes you create for docker to use, and the media folders need to have permissions set up within DSM. Happy to help if you've got any other specific questions. ciss 4
Thank you @@bushy I've uninstalled docker, reinstalled, I've done this exactly oer your screenshot, still when I launch shortcut "http://192.168.1.151:8096/?launchParam=data%3D%255Bobject%2520Object%255D" It says "This site can’t be reached 192.168.1.151 refused to connect." I allowed ports in firewall. Could you Export your container settings maybe and help a noob out? I tried embyserver:latest and embyserver:beta, still no dice. Bushy82 4
what port do you have mapped to 8096 in the container?
ciss 4
Doh!!! Thanks! I had the ports on auto! Now I re-mapped them and I'm in the interface!! I'll let you know my progress.
Bushy82 4
Nice one! Once i got to there, the next challenge was getting it to read/write to the volumes, including the config volume. Check your permissions in DSM - you need to allow the local user group read write access to the mapped folders.
ciss 4
yes, well, it seems there is no user "appuser" nor a group containing it on my syno. do I have to create it? Or is there a set of commands I could use with putty? Thanks again, much appreciate your help!! Edited March 17, 2016 by ciss
Bushy82 4
I didn't create any specific users, but i wasn't particularly concerned with security. My NAS and Emby are not exposed to the internet, and i trust my local wifi.Having said that, in DSM, go to control panel>Shared Folder. Find your embyconfig folder click edit, then choose permissions and then use the drop down to get to local groups (as opposed to local users). My understanding, and i could be wrong but it does seem to work, is that docker runs as a local user, so you need to grant the 'users' group under local users read/write permissions to the config folder, as well as to the media folders (if you want emby to update artwork and nfos and such. Hope that helps.
ciss 4
Thanks it helps, but that gives all users access to my media folder, which is not an option for me. What I noticed, the folder "docker" has write/read access already, I need to figure out what is the user name which uses emby, to give that particular one access to my media. According to this link I need to figure out this "I found the Synology group that had access to this volume (not users as reported above) and set the GID of that group to APP_GID and Emby in the container is now able to view the contents of the directories." I used winscp and navigated to passwd and group files, but I dont see any "appuser" on that list. Better yet, is there a putty command to change the default user to one I choose myself? For example, I have an user "apps" which handles all my media apps' permissions: sonarr, couchpotato, headphones, nzbdrone, jackett etc. Can I use this user? If yes, what would be the command to change emby user to "apps". Bushy, you have been most helpful, thank you once again. LE: I'm a poor windows guy, first time using putty and the like LE2: from group file, what seems new are the following groups: avahi:x:84: bind:x:53: daemon:x:2:daemon,root dbus:x:81: dovecot:x:143:dovecot http:x:1023: log:x:19:root lp:x:7:lp ntp:x:87: rpc:x:32: smmsp:x:25: wheel:x:10:admin Any hints? ciss 4
Solved it! Many thanks to corey and bushy! This is how I solved my permission problem. =============== I think I can help then. The first step is to figure out which group on your Synology has write access to your media folders. After that SSH into your Synology and run a command like follows replacing "home" with your group name: ds716nas> cat /etc/group | grep home home:x:65536:familypc,mediaserver,coreyrmbp The value in the output above, 65536, is the GID. Set that to the APP_GID parameter and you should be able to read/write from these shares now. I hope this helps! Cobra 6
I am having similar struggles with permissions with the official emby docker running on unraid. Not sure if anyone else here is using a docker with unraid but I would be interested in their feedback if so. Everything is working great overall with the exception of QuickSync transcoding inside of a docker. I have my video share passed to the docker container and emby writes recordings here without a problem. I have tried changing share type from private to public and has not made a difference for this. When I browse to the emby Recordings in Windows and click on the security tab to see the file permissions I see the following users/permissions. Everyone - allow read only nobody (Unix User\nobody) - allow read and write users (Unix Group\users) allow read However, when I look at the permissions of one of the folders inside Series that get created for a recording the above users are also created but no security is assigned to the folder. My goal is to use mcebuddy to remove commercials and delete the original file but the delete portion seems to be a problem even if I use a public share. I am using the default docker config of APP_UID 99 and APP_GID 100 on the container. Is there something I am missing to give unraid host permissions to delete files? emby can delete the recording files fine but it will still leave the empty series folders. I am unable to delete the series files or folders through windows. My non-emby files on this share have the same users but have read/write access. As expected I cannot change permissions through windows. Edited March 21, 2016 by Cobra
hurricanehrndz 149
This is not a docker setting, I believe this has to do with how your shares are setup. It might be best to ask for help in lime-techs forums. I will try and help you the best I can but no promises. What is the uid and gid ownership of the folders your are trying to delete? I will try and help you the best I can but no promises. What is the uid and gid ownership of the folders your are trying to delete? Thank you for offering to help but I am happy to report the problem is solved, you were right it was permission related. I had created a new unraid user and have my share setup as a private share. By default the docker container has APP_UID default value of 99. As you suggested I looked a permissions on the unraid host and found my user account had UID of 1000. I simply changed the docker config value for APP_UID to 1000 and left the default APP_GID as 100 and that was all that was needed. I now see the added unraid user on the files/folders with read/write access that was not there before. All is working great now. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, much appreciated.
