lklein 2 Posted October 18, 2020 Posted October 18, 2020 Will Emby work with the new HDHomerun tuner and 4K? HDHomerun 4k
lklein 2 Posted October 18, 2020 Author Posted October 18, 2020 Great! I meant to say ATSC3. I keep getting the S and C reversed. I have to use remember AT South Carolina.
whyteknt 3 Posted October 18, 2020 Posted October 18, 2020 Luke, I know you've also said in past posts that the hdhomerun 4k unit would be supported, but I'm unclear if it should be working now? or do you mean eventually? I have one of the kickstarter (non dev) units right now. I live in Portland Oregon, and our major broadcasters do already have ATSC3 signals avail. I've been able to view the ATSC/HEVC signals using the HDhomerun ap on my LG tv, but have not been able to view any HEVC signals on Emby; not on PC, LG emby ap, nor on my firestick4k. Emby DOES recognize the new 4k tunner, but trying to view them just results in a spinner on a black screen. If I should be able to view the ATSC/HEVC signals through EMBY right now, I'll keep working on it. But if there is something still needed on the EMBY side that is coming, would appreciate knowing, I'm running latest server version. thanks

whyteknt 3 Posted October 18, 2020 Posted October 18, 2020 I partially solved my problem. When downloading the log files, I noticed they were labeled as 'transcode' files. I went back to the setup of the new 4k tuner in Emby, and I see I had left the 'allow hardware Transcoding' option checked. I removed that (no check), restarted the server, and now I have HEVC video signals coming through - BUT with no sound. I've attached my log files. I first tuned to 2 different known HEVC channels, both had video but no sound. then I flipped over to a non-HEVC signal and got sound again on that channel. So I'm getting HEVC video now showing on Emby (theater), but no sound. This is with my 2 older HChomerun tuners disconnected to make sure I'm pulling from the new 4k one. 2 files attached. I do get HEVC video and audio both when I view this on the HDHomerun LG ap on my TV. No problems there, other that pretty slow to switch between channels. thanks Luke embyserver.txt hardware_detection-63738635821.txt
rouq 23 Posted October 19, 2020 Posted October 19, 2020 Hi Can you provide the transcode logs as well? I do not have yet 4k Hdhomerun, but I follow closely the silicondust 4k thread. You are not alone with this no sound issue. The current atsc 3.0 broadcasters seem to have chosen the new fancy Dolby AC-4 format for audio codec. There are not a lot of devices supporting this audio codec yet. To my knowledge, there is no codec available for Windows. Some high end TV starting from 2018 seems to support this format. Did you try emby theater app directly on your LG TV? @Luke Does emby currently capable of transcoding AC-4 audio format? Regards
whyteknt 3 Posted October 19, 2020 Posted October 19, 2020 Ebmy Theater (Ap) on my LG OLED C7 tv shows video, but no audio (and video only comes after a considerable delay in locking in the channel picture). so: Emby Theater on PC: Video, but no sound Emby Theater Ap on LG TV: Video, but no sound Emby on 4k Firestick (on same LGTV): Video, but no sound HDHomeRun ap on same LG TV: Video and Sound (good) I can work on attaching a transcode file. Do I need to be worried about putting any transcode files out on the Forums? (IP address, or Emby keys in that data??) I assume it's safe to share those files without disclosing something I shouldn't.

Luke 39417 Posted October 20, 2020 Posted October 20, 2020 Hi there, yes please attach the ffmpeg log as well. Thanks.
whyteknt 3 Posted October 20, 2020 Posted October 20, 2020 attached are are a couple examples that should be during the time I was playing the HEVC video. ffmpeg-transcode-1f80c53c-ba96-4082-90c8-67df2225f4cc_1.txt ffmpeg-transcode-620e36e1-4150-410f-bc6f-21bb95b2de05_1.txt

whyteknt 3 Posted October 21, 2020 Posted October 21, 2020 interesting. I can see the HEVC channels showing the AudioCodec as = 'NONE' (ch 2.1, 6.1, 8.1, 12.1, 32.1,49.1) hope this is helpful. {"FriendlyName":"HDHomeRun CONNECT Luke 39417 Posted October 21, 2020 Posted October 21, 2020 Ok we can adjust to handle that data but I don't think that is currently causing any problem. As a test, if you disable hardware acceleration in server transcoding settings, does that help?
whyteknt 3 Posted October 21, 2020 Posted October 21, 2020 (edited) Today With Hoda & Jenna 2020 CH 8.1 KGW 10:00 11:00 close Edited October 21, 2020 by whyteknt mistake - did not intend to post
whyteknt 3 Posted October 21, 2020 Posted October 21, 2020 disabling the hardware accelerator in the Transcode settings did not change anything. Still no sound on the HEVC channels. don't know if this is relevant; but in the 'stats for nerds' screen on the HEVC channels with no sound, it appears it's trying to transcode with H264 and MP3. The 'original media info' shows "HEVC Main 10" in a Mpegts container. its says 'reason for transcode" is 'container not supported'.
whyteknt 3 Posted October 21, 2020 Posted October 21, 2020 I should have added, I have seen in the SiliconDust forums, that AC4 audio appears to be used with the new HEVC channels. I cannot confirm if this is the case for Portland market or not.

You can confirm this statement in your ffmpeg transcode logs: 12:52:30.634 Program 3 12:52:30.634 Stream #0:0[0x31]: Video: hevc (Main 10) ([36][0][0][0] / 0x0024), yuv420p10le(tv, bt709), 1920x1080 [SAR 1:1 DAR 16:9], Closed Captions, Level 123, 59.94 fps, 59.94 tbr, 90k tbn, 59.94 tbc, Start-Time 27758.219s12:52:30.634 Stream #0:1[0x32](eng): Data: bin_data (AC-4 / 0x342D4341), Start-Time 27758.452s 12:52:30.634 Stream #0:2[0x3a](eng): Data: bin_data (STPP / 0x50505453) 12:52:30.641 Stream mapping: 12:52:30.641 Stream #0:0 (hevc_qsv) -> vpp_qsv 12:52:30.641 vpp_qsv -> Stream #0:0 (h264_qsv) Like you can see, ffmpeg doesn't seem to know what to do with AC-4, it seems to see it as "data stream", not audio stream. In the stream mapping, stream #0:1 is not mapped. The audio is not there at all. Emby is sending only video to your clients. Edited October 21, 2020 by rouq
whyteknt 3 Posted October 23, 2020 Posted October 23, 2020 So it sounds like this is something that is not just specific to me, but something we'll all need to wait for EMBY to be able to recognize that AC4 audio stream. Sound correct? (puns intended) 1
softworkz 4468 Posted October 26, 2020 Posted October 26, 2020 It somewhat reminds me of that King of Queens episode where Arthur made this great invention of a new screwdriver kind, which uses the geometry of a capital 'A' to fit into the screw heads, called "The Arthur Tip" screwdriver.
softworkz 4468 Posted October 26, 2020 Posted October 26, 2020 The audience was laughing, seeing no way that this could ever be successfully forced into the market. But the Dolby guys were laughing even more, after they managed to do just that...
Carlo 4535 Posted October 26, 2020 Posted October 26, 2020 The Dolby guys can go laughing all the way to the bank but the fact remains they won the war on audio. It's here now but Emby/ffmpeg is failing with it presently. Can you comment on that?
softworkz 4468 Posted October 26, 2020 Posted October 26, 2020 19 minutes ago, cayars said: Can you comment on that? Sure. What has been stated above is correct: As long as ffmpeg doesn't have it, there's nothing we can do, unless we want to invest a substantial amount of time and money. The fact that neither ffmpeg nor VLC has it by now, might be an indication that it's not an easy task at all.
