You could get a 600$ raid card with 12 SATA ports, or 2 cheap data controller without raid and use a cheap software like drivepool. Same with home PCs, you could get expensive i7 or go for a eBay Xeon that has the same type of clock and cache, but half or less the price :)

I wouldn't class DrivePool or DriveBender as "cheap software", as that demeans the job they do.

Admittedly they aren't expensive, but there a lots of people using both very happily :)

It looks like DrivePool ($30) is 3x more expensive than DriveBender ($10), unless I'm mistaken.

WRT eBay, I've just bought a HP Proliant DL120 G6 (4-bay) with 2x Xeon processors and 8Gb ram for £80 :D

Here is my mess of a server. I can close the doors to the ventilated closet so my wife is happy.

It hooks into this in my front room. It is a 3D TV

And this is my Development Area, my wife hates it.

For some reasons, I'm never able to see pics when they're attached files like those:

All I'm getting's a white popup with the thingy that turns endlessly

That's an old post (3 years), so I doubt the links are still valid.

Aren't those attached files somewhere over on the forum server?

Not necessarily. They could be Dropbox links which are no longer her valid.

Dropbox recently (March 2017) dropped the use of a PUBLIC folder from where links were made available.

No doubt a lot of my links on this forum no longer work, as I haven't found a way of resurrecting them.

OK, I understand, thanks.

Hopefully, most people here know by now if you try pasting a pic right into a post, you can't save it.

Save you pic somewhere then upload it here using the little image icon...

Real pretty but 5x 3.5" bay only??? DOOOH

Also, is it milk cooled or what?

Haven't heard how much they're asking for it, but I think I'd need to sell my car and house to afford one.

No problem, I think its big enough that you can live inside it, and it's got enough fan to make commuting to work a "breeze"...

I like the idea of having two motherboards, you can run the server and a separate gaming PC in one case, but yeah the lack of many 3.5 drive bays kinda kills that idea. :/
