mrb002 5 Posted July 30, 2018 Posted July 30, 2018 i'm wondering if i'm missing something or if this feature is working as intended. does the "replace all metadata" with "replace existing images" selected also refresh metadata and images on items marked as "lock this item from future changes" ? my goal is to set some movies to have custom poster images and/or custom sort titles, lock them, and still be able to refresh the rest of the library, but right now my custom selections are getting wiped out. how do i set my server to really and truly lock metadata and/or images on an item?
Luke 38825 Posted July 30, 2018 Posted July 30, 2018 Hi, yes the lock should prevent any changes, including when refreshing. Thanks.
mrb002 5 Posted July 30, 2018 Author Posted July 30, 2018 Hi, yes the lock should prevent any changes, including when refreshing. Thanks. thanks Luke. i'm on 3.5.2.0 and it is overwriting the poster image with a thumbnail from the movie. i do not believe this is limited to this version as i was noticing it last week as well. i was able to demonstrate the issue by doing the following (using web interface): 1. select the movie 2. select the ellipsis button 3. select "Edit images" 4. select magnifying glass icon on the Primary image 5. choose a different image using the "cloud download" button 6. hit the "back" button in the interface next to the "Edit Images" text 7. the new image has now replaced the old image. 8. select the ellipsis button 9. choose edit metadata 10. select "lock this item to prevent future changes" and click save. 11. refresh the item or the library choosing "Replace all metadata" and select "Replace Existing images" 12. the movie now has a cover/poster image of a thumbnail from the movie. i can attach a debug log if needed.
Luke 38825 Posted July 30, 2018 Posted July 30, 2018 There might be a clause in there that allows it when you refresh manually. I will have to review. This is all getting too complicated for my liking. We should never have allowed you in the first place to both lock it and then try to refresh it.

Hi Luke, I just stumbled across this post while looking for something similar. May I ask what's wrong with the idea of locking something, but allowing refreshes? Presumably the refresh (should) just ignore any locked items, so there doesn't seem to be a design issue/conflict here? Unless you're specifically referring to refreshes for an item that's been locked (as opposed to a system-wide refresh that should ignore locked items?)
Luke 38825 Posted September 24, 2018 Posted September 24, 2018 Because you can lock individual fields, so the refresh process has no way of knowing if you want that ignored or not. Better to just apply it consistently at all times.
RogerO 5 Posted September 24, 2018 Posted September 24, 2018 Ah. I'd just assumed that the refresh process would be able to check what fields were set to Locked. Cheers.
