silvanet 0
Just so that others can see in case they ever need help, we have attempted to help you but haven't heard back after we offered suggestions or asked questions. You only posted for help twice. I responded within 30 minutes here: http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/22510-m4a-aac-direct-play-without-transcoding-through-webinterface/?p=229215 And I responded within 90 minutes here: http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/18043-web-client-will-not-play-anything/?p=229235 In both cases I never heard back. If you would like help we are here to help. If you would like to uninstall then you should be able to uninstall just as with any other ubuntu package. Sorry, but you grabbed only a minor part of my posts all across this forum as I was looking for help. I never got any email notifications of anybody responding and I went about my business. I did plenty of digging into the logs and the transcoding info and I posted about that too. I also apologized for having not collected all my posts in one place. That is ALL my own fault. I admit it. I'm not in any way trying to blame you. Perhaps if I had seen your reply, I could have fixed this, but now I'm afraid things are really messed up. I DID get errors on the initial install. I mentioned that in another post. it had to do with libsdl2-2.0-0 and I don't thing ffmpeg properly installed. But I did mention that for a moment at least everything played OK, so I don't know if that was really the problem. Do you still want me to send you a log and try to help me fix this? Yea I'm here and will help with whatever problem you're having. As far as logs go, see this first: http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/23404-cant-play-from-browser-and-intros-no-longer-working/?p=229357 The browser can't play strm files that contain kodi plugin paths. This might not be your fault - maybe they were put there by a kodi add-on? In any case, we can improve this in a future release to not allow you to try and play in the first place. If your issue is different or if you're not sure, then yes please post logs.
silvanet 0
First, in reply to Luke, yes, I did have a kodi media browser add-on, so thanks for clearing that up. Then I was wrong to expect that I could click on a the server's home page video icons and have them play; or, at least, if they were or weren't playing then it would have been the Kodi addon that I had to address, and not emby. My ultimate idea was to set emby up as my stand along media server (on a NAS), and allow any computer or TV connected box to stream content from my library on to any device in my home network. Kodi can kind of do that, but in a very limited way (at least to my still learning understanding of Kodi). Maybe a little explanation of what I should expect from emby? I created its library (well, kind of, because what I really did was copy over my Kodi library - and then remove the original Kodi library when I found that Kodi could recognize the one I created for emby and that all the content played as if the original one were there). I then wanted to do two things: check that Kodi running on the same machine where I set up emby could play the videos; and then check if another client on my home network could do the same. For a brief moment I was able to get the server machine to play the videos from within Kodi, but I was never able to get the client to do so. OK, after that little intro, I'll go back and see if emby still reports that it is running OK. I'll try to play some videos and I'll send you my log. Thanks so much. silvanet 0
Second, in reply to hurricanehernandez, yes I did install Kodi myself. I have done so in over 100 machines, all working perfectly well - some Raspberrys with OpenElec, a few pure Linux boxes (the ones with the least problems), and the vast majority of them Android boxes, with a smattering of Windows 7 and Windows 8 installations. Luke 37064
What you can do is add your own media to the Emby library - your own videos, music, pictures, etc. You should have no problems playing those from Emby apps and if you do, then we can help. Emby also has some understanding of strm files: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Strm%20files But only if those files contain media paths. If those files contain kodi plugin paths, then you can browse that content from any Emby app, but you can only play it from the Kodi add-on. silvanet 0
Just done some checking and it does seem that emby is making me mix repository archives - open suse with ubuntu. Not sure I really should be doing that. Checking with Ubuntu 14.04, emby is not supported since 12.10. Have you guys made necessary adjustments to work with 14.04, or maybe it's best really to uninstall emby for my version?

drhill 2
make sure nothing else is taking control over that port, and also make sure the server isn't already running. ps aux shows no instances of emby and a netstat shows nothing for 8920 and 8096. Is there setting in the default (or a config) I can set the ports or disable https? This server is just used for organizing, tracking playback progress, and server files to local Kodi devices. Nothing fancy for me.

osborni 1
So the latest install seamed to have worked despite the errors when I ran the install. HOWEVER, the server isn't updating images and xml/nfo information properly. Sometimes it works, most times it doesn't. It seams to be creating 0 kb image files (poster, banner. logo, fanart) and it will fail to download the image if I do a "Browse Image > download". System says "error downloading to /../../ folder" I can download the image into the movie folder just fine and it will work. I can then press the "download" button and it will recognize the image and make the association in the metadata-manager. It doesn't seam to matter if I wait for the overnight library update or force a manual library update. 9/10 times it will fail. I am running Ubuntu 14.04, server is Version 3.0.5675.1 I have the movies on a Synology DS712+ with the latest software - DSM 5.2-5592 Update 1. I typically use a WIndows 7 client machine to view the movies.

silvanet 0
OK guys, I'm still not getting emby to work completely and I don't know if it's a configuration problem or if it was in the original installation on Ubuntu 14.04. Right now it appears to be working, but I am getting "Video Error: There was an error playing the video" pop-up when I try to play a video. I don't know if I should try to clean out my installation and start all over again, or proceed from here and try to see if someone can help me get it to work. Luke & hurricanehernandez were helpful, but I'm still stuck. I've read a lot on this forum and found that at least some people had a lot of trouble installing emby on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. I've also seen posts referring to a lot of the same error messages I'm seeing in the log files. hurricanehernandez, if that offer to help me still stands, I'd like to try. Sorry, my profile time zone was wrong. I'm not in Casablanca. Edited July 22, 2015 by silvanet
drhill 2
ps aux shows no instances of emby and a netstat shows nothing for 8920 and 8096. Is there setting in the default (or a config) I can set the ports or disable https? This server is just used for organizing, tracking playback progress, and server files to local Kodi devices. Nothing fancy for me. I tried changing the ports in the system.xml with the same results. Is there anywhere I can get an older version so I can see if it is the latest version or a dependency? Luke 37064
well by default https is purely optional, so you should be able to do everything with just http.
drhill 2
well by default https is purely optional, so you should be able to do everything with just http. Well I'm in a better state. I noticed if I let it start to the default path it would start. So I renamed my emby data folder and let it start up to the spot I wanted and it started. Stopped it and copied over my config/system.xml as well as metadata, data, and plugin folder from the old folder. It starts but I have no library and no entries in Media Library->Folders. I do have my path substitutions as I saw they were in the system.xml. Is there a file I'm missing to get the library and folders back or do I need to readd folder entries, rescan, and then go cleanup misidentified items again? Luke 37064
Glad to hear. I'm not exactly sure what you did so i would just re-add them because that will repopulate the database. depending on where your metadata is you might not need to re-identify. also if you feel the identification is an error on the part of the server, then make sure to report some examples so that we can improve it for future use.
