streamac 2 Posted April 7, 2024 Posted April 7, 2024 I have mkv files and external idx/sub subtitle files. They work in the web player but not in Apple TV and iOS apps. Srt subs and subs embedded in mkv files seem to work normally, so looks like it's just idx/sub and just ATV/iOS. Latest versions for all of them, Emby Server is running on a Mac. The apps show that there is a subtitle available, but turning it off and on doesn't do anything. This stopped working some time ago, maybe 2-3 months ago so possibly coinciding with the 2.2.16 or 2.2.17 app releases.
Luke 39645 Posted April 7, 2024 Posted April 7, 2024 Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!
streamac 2 Posted April 8, 2024 Author Posted April 8, 2024 I got the terms mixed up, obviously the topic should read DVDSUB and not SUBRIP. Anyway, here's the log. Looks like there's a clear subtitle error. embyserver.txt
Luke 39645 Posted April 9, 2024 Posted April 9, 2024 @streamaccan you please show a screenshot of the bottom of the detail screen for this video? Thanks.

streamac 2 Posted April 11, 2024 Author Posted April 11, 2024 Thanks. Hopefully it can be fixed. I have to watch these with Kodi on my mediacenter but I'd rather use Emby through Apple TV. 1
streamac 2 Posted May 20, 2024 Author Posted May 20, 2024 (edited) I see there have been some work done regarding this in the latest versions. I can now see the subtitles again, but in direct play they are very small and in the corner of the screen. When transcoding they are bigger but slightly out of place and have different appearance compared to web playback. I'll add images so you can see the difference. The transcoded web playback looks like the correct DVD appearance. iPad direct play: iPad transcoded: Web transcoded playback: Edited May 20, 2024 by streamac added descriptions for images

streamac 2 Posted June 6, 2024 Author Posted June 6, 2024 Here's a fresh server log after starting playback on the latest iPad app where the problem happens. embyserver.txt
Luke 39645 Posted June 15, 2024 Posted June 15, 2024 @streamaccan you please zip up the sub/idx files and attach them here? thanks.
