Devices tested on: Shield 2017, Shield 2019
Emby Android TV client version: 2.0.83g
Emby Server version: 4.7.9.0

I have a TV show here that has Dolby Digital Plus with Dolby Atmos audio as its audio track.
Here's the mediainfo of the audio:

When trying to attempt to play any of the episodes, I get the "Too many errors, giving up" message.

Looking at the server logs (attached below), it seems it's related to the audio.
The files play fine in VLC on both Shields, and on Emby Theater on my PC as well.

Tried looking here in the forums but didn't find anything related to DD+ Atmos audio.

I'm seeing a couple of issues.  One is that the player is just throwing a generic "source error" load exception trying to load the file.  I'm wondering if maybe it is related to the fact that this item appears to have about 60 subtitle tracks.  Do you have something without all of that in it to test with?

Unfortunately I do not. This is the 1st time I've encountered a media that Emby can't play.
This episode has 1 video track, 1 audio track and 34 subtitle tracks, way less than the 60 you're seeing.

Yes.  It will recognize your Shield as a TV device and give you an appropriate interface.

This is trying with no subtitles selected if that helps.

I just tried another show that has the exact same audio, and it plays fine.
The only difference though is that that show is 4K, but is hybrid as well (has HDR and DV on the video) and has even more sub tracks (42).

Affirmative.

I've also tried another show that has the same video: 1080p hybrid (DV and HDR combined), but with regular DDP+ no atmos and the shield plays it fine.
I'm in the process of getting another episode from another show with the exact same video/audio combo and see if the problem also persists.
But again, the problematic video plays fine with VLC on the shield and in Emby theater.

Little update.

Tried on another show that has the same audio and video and, as expected, can't play it either.
I have to say that the 1080p H.265 DV/HDR10 with DDplus Atmos audio is a very rare combo. I could only find 2 shows in that format.

I have also tested the following, all of them working fine:
1080p H.264 with DDplus Atmos
1080p H.265 HDR10 with DDplus Atmos
1080p H.265 DV/HDR10 with DDplus (no atmos)
2160p H.265 DV/HDR10 with DDplus Atmos

EDIT:
Forgot to mention that on top of VLC being able to play everything fine on the Shield, so does MPV.

Been roughly a month and I still can't figure why some files won't play.

All I can say for certain is:
- It only affects the Android clients (mobile and TV). The files play fine on Emby's Desktop and iOS client.
- It is not sound related contrary to what I initially thought (the log seems to suggest it's audio related, but it's not).
- Problematic media files are MKV with HDR10 base layer, with an additional DV Profile 8 layer and a format profile of "Main 10@L5@Main" or "Main 10@L4@Main".
Same kind of files with format profile of "Main 10@L5.1@Main", "Main 10@L5.1@High" and "Main 10@L5@High" seem to work fine however.
- 1080p is as much affected as 2160p. So resolution doesn't seem to matter.
- The files play fine with Jellyfin and Plex on Android TV (haven't tried their Android mobile client).

I'm happy to report that after the latest Android app update, this is no longer an issue on the Nvidia Shield.
If you could implement the changes to the Android TV app, that would be great as the issue still remains.

the same Exo updates have also been applied to the Android TV beta app
