Newbie Question - Best server option to make use of Atmos
Robnaeyaert posted a topic in General/Windows
Hello Emby Sorry newbie question. I've been running Emby on my Windows NUC for years and I recently upgraded my TV and Audio. I'm now running a Samsung Q-990B Atmos Sound Bar and run the Samsung App on my Samsung Frame TV (LS03b) to play media off my Windows NUC Server. I'm not sure I have a setup that makes use of my audio (my audio is connected to my TV using Q-Symphony via ARC) I want to ensure my hardware is optimized so I get the best out of my sound bar. I've heard people talking about Nvidia Shield but I'm not sure what that is. I realize my media has to be encoded (and I have a mixture of Atmos, TrueHD media) but can anyone please point me to a simple to understand guide (or give me advice) on the best way to hook this up so I get great sound please and if I need to ditch my Windows NUC for a better server so I get great audio ? Cheers Rob -
Nvidia Shield + TruHD transcodes even though it’s natively supported
xboarder56 posted a topic in Android TV / Fire TV
Hi all, I have a nvidia shield, LG CX, and a Sonos arc. When playing stuff from the shield with other apps it plays atmos usually over Dolby digital plus just fine. While using Emby if I turn off audio transcoding on the server for my user it plays the atmos perfectly fine. However, if that setting is enabled it will transcode the audio and remove atmos because the Sonos is getting PCM 7.1 instead. Having transcoding disabled on audio is a pin because I want to use the same account for my mobile devices too. Is there a way to see why it’s breaking? Because I can disable it, and it still plays back fine it feels like a bug with Emby but hard to see. -
Hello the community, I have been searching the existing threads for 2 days, and although few ones where closely similar to my issue, it was not exactly the same and/or the fix was not working for me when there was one. I have to admit, I'm beginning to lose my mind over this, it is starting to drive me nuts. To give some background, I recently upgraded my sound system from a Yamaha YSP 2700 that served me well for 5 years, to a Samsung Q990B soundbar. My PC is hosting the server and the media files, and I am connected on 1Ghz ethernet network. My client is running on Fire TV 4k max also connected with ethernet, and I have a 75" 4k TCL tv for the display. In my initial setup, my fire tv was hooked on the tv through HDMI, and my tv hooked to the soundbar with HDMI over the eARC ports. This was not working at all when I wanted to play the 7.1 TrueHD stream, and was only working if I changed to a secondary audio stream, such as DTS or 5.1. Next I tried to hook the fire tv directly to the soundbar, and I saw some improvement here, as I now was able to play the default audio stream (TrueHD 7.1), however, using the nerds stats I found out it was somewhat decoding the audio. Both the fire tv and the soundbar are supposed to support Dolby Atmos, however, it appears that when I play a file, for a few seconds, the audio is showing TrueHD Direct Play, to then switch to : Software Decode. I have also noticed when I pressed info on the soundbar remote, that the audio was played in PCM, I don't know why. I'm not very experienced with this type of setup and ask your forgiveness if this post is not clear, or lacking details, with some guidance, I will be happy to provide more infos that could help to get through this. Thank you embyserver.txt

Devices tested on: Shield 2017, Shield 2019 Emby Android TV client version: 2.0.83g Emby Server version: 4.7.9.0 I have a TV show here that has Dolby Digital Plus with Dolby Atmos audio as its audio track. Here's the mediainfo of the audio: Audio ID : 2 Format : E-AC-3 JOC Format/Info : Enhanced AC-3 with Joint Object Coding Commercial name : Dolby Digital Plus with Dolby Atmos Codec ID : A_EAC3 Duration : 46 min 18 s Bit rate mode : Constant Bit rate : 768 kb/s Channel(s) : 6 channels Channel layout : L R C LFE Ls Rs Sampling rate : 48.0 kHz Frame rate : 31.250 FPS (1536 SPF) Compression mode : Lossy Stream size : 254 MiB (20%) Language : English Service kind : Complete Main Default : Yes Forced : No Complexity index : 16 Number of dynamic objects : 15 Bed channel count : 1 channel Bed channel configuration : LFE When trying to attempt to play any of the episodes, I get the "Too many errors, giving up" message. Looking at the server logs (attached below), it seems it's related to the audio. The files play fine in VLC on both Shields, and on Emby Theater on my PC as well. Tried looking here in the forums but didn't find anything related to DD+ Atmos audio. embyserver.txt ffmpeg-remux-40ec91c4-c38d-4669-a013-9973fac5c8ea_1.txt

I am having trouble playing a 4K video with TrueHD or Atmos audio. While playing the video I can switch to Dolby Digital 5.1 and it plays fine when I switch the audio track to TrueHD the video still plays but no audio. I have my Xbox One X plugged into my Onkyo receiver directly into an HDMI 2.2 input. Anyone have any insight into this. Thanks.

So I have an interesting problem. I'm in the process of setting up my first complete home theater with a C8 as my TV was reading up on the limitations associated with ARC. I plan on using one of LG's internal Emby app. The system I'm setting up is a 5.1.2 system and I was hoping that I could stream lossless audio by connecting my receiver to my C8 through the ARC connection, but I was reading that only eARC is cable of TrueHD. A quick diagram of my connections: LG C8 (Internal Emby App) -> AVR -> Speakers As an example, my Avengers Infinity War file has the following for audio (which looks like no DD+ [E_AC-3]): TrueHD: 5174 kbps | 8 channel A_AC-3: 640 kbps | 6 channel A_AC-3: 192 kbps | 2 channel I definitely want to retain the atmos channels since that's why I got the additional speakers. From my understanding, since the TrueHD can't transfer to my AVR, it would default to the A_AC-3 audio, which would not contain the atmos components (correct me if I'm wrong). So my question is, would it be possible to force my Emby server to transcode the TrueHD with atmos to DD+ with atmos? And if so, is this a fairly hardware intensive transcode? Let me know if I can clarify anything or if I said anything wrong! ~Q

Wondering what the general state is regarding both of the above in Emby. Most of my watching is via a Sony TV KD-55X9000F, fed by a Shield (just got a 2019 model) and sound out to a Samsung HW-N850 with extra rear speakers. I'm 99% certain I get HDR but never Dolby Vision. The only Atmos I've ever played (according to the display on the front of the soundbar), is from Dobly Atmos demo files. Should I expect anything more ? I'm playing ripped 4K movies done via MakeMKV and the result is a (big) MKV file. According to their website Vision and/or Atmos is being worked on. They talk about testing stuff with a custom Exo player in Kodi. Should the custom Exo player you are apparently working on here https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/88485-android-mobile-3124-testing/ help with any of this ?

Hello, while trying to playback a movie with HEVC and truehd and atmos emby tries to change the container from MKV to a TS when this happens I lose the audio. if I choose not to trans-code or force play it plays with audio. I know that emby reports that my tv can only handle up to 5.1 audio and not lossless but i have no problem playing force playing atmos7.1 or dts X convert it all to dd+ 51 or dts 5.1 . when i live this setting on for no trans some movies and live tv from an old hdhomerun fails to play. how can i adjust the profile to covert mpeg4 stream and not atmos Truehd? logs attached playback no trans have audio now.txt playback with no sound.txt Thanks for all you guys DO... Hello! Even though my LG OLED TV can decode Dolby Atmos internally, it's HDMI standard is too old to pass on Atmos via ARC to my Denon Receiver. So I bought the FireTV Cube (2nd Gen) which I connected directly to the AVR, as I read that the Cube would support Atmos out of the box. But besides from the Netflix App I don't get Atmos anywhere, which I find odd. Within the Emby App the highest output format I get for my 4K movie MKV's is Dolby True HD 7.2, which my Denon can convert into Atmos via Neural:X. However, if I play the same file with PowerDVD from my PC (also connected to the Receiver) the device will correctly detect the Atmos format. So I wonder what needs to be done in the FireTV settings to also get Atmos Sound from there as well. At the moment the Audio option is set to "highest format possible". I tried switching it to "always use Dolby Digital" but this didn't yield any better results. Within the Emby App I've passtrough enabled. Can someone help me with this issue?

MiBox ATV Emby native playback fails to play Atmos/TrueHD, External to Kodi works
LjMcSeeYouInHell posted a topic in Android TV / Fire TV
Hi Guys Long time user but new to the AndroidTV App, have always used Emby for Kodi but since becoming a supporter have switched to the native app and am enjoying the experience apart from one gripe. If I try to play a movie with Atmos/TrueHD it will transcode the audio to AC3, however, if I switch to using an External Player via App options and play the movie via Kodi it plays as expected with full Atmos/TrueHD sound. Kodi doesn't switch back to Emby cleanly after stopping playback though so it's not a solution I can continue to use... Any ideas why the Mibox will not pass the Atmos track through native app playback? Xiaomi Mi Box 3 MDZ-16-AB > Onkyo TX-NR545 > Crappy 1080p TV Have attached Server log and transcode log. Played movie first using the internal player, then stopped and switched -inside Emby app- to External Player (Kodi) and started playback again. Hoping I can get this working, let me know if you need any more info embyserver.txt ffmpeg-remux-7ac4bbd3-693c-4a20-b990-e917a6ac56d5_1.txt -
Hi all, i was wondering with the emby theater setup if its possible with the speaker configuration settings that its going to play a Dolby Atmos speaker configuration of 7.1.4? i can see now that in emby theater that you can set speakers to 5.1 or 7.1, but with these new atmos configurations will emby theater support/handle this? thanks in advance

Hi Luke, I've been using Emby Theatre for a long time and only just discovered the LG App - it is superb! I'm now using it on my LG OLED65C7 and older 55EC930V running WebOS 1.0. It is lightning fast and has been rock solid for me so far. I would love to be able to put the media PC in the loft and relegate that to being a server, as using the LG Emby app with the native TV remote is a much smoother experience. The snag is that using Emby Theatre has the benefit of allowing me to play HD lossless audio formats through my Denon receiver over HDMI. Because the Emby LG app leverages ARC to send audio to the A/V receiver I get DTS and Dolby Digital due to the ARC bandwidth restrictions in effect. However, when I use the LG's Netflix app I get Dolby Digital Plus (DD+) over ARC (and understand that DD+ Atmos is also possible). Are there any plans to support DD+ and DD+ Atmos audio in the LG App at some point in the future as I understand this is as good as we can hope for in terms of sound quality over ARC at present? Thanks

I'm designing a new home theater space, and I want to support the lossless audio (TrueHD, DTS-MA), as well as advanced audio like Atmos or DTS:X. I currently use a Roku Premier+ (which I love), but it only supports DD 5.1, so Emby is transcoding the audio for me (this is fine for my current setup, as I only have 5.1 installed anyway). I'm looking at my options for the new space, and want to make sure my client will be able to pass through HD audio to the receiver. From reading the forums, the Shield will handle this, but I haven't seen anything say for sure that the Xbox One will do this. Can anyone confirm this for me? Given that the Shield is $200, it makes sense to me to spend another $50 and get a box that can also play 4k discs. Thanks!

Alright, so I mentioned this previously but never logged or created a topic for it @@Luke, normally I'd just throw this into the server support area, and tagged onto someone else's atmos problem topic there a couple weeks ago when I first saw this thinking it was a server issue. I've played a few atmos transcodes back in both the android and web client, so I no longer think this is a server specific issue I can't make any heads or tails how this is Emby for Kodi related, but here is my OpenElec log http://xbmclogs.com/p9xw0gztk Emby for Kodi has a lot of log spew even with logging turned off ;( I did a reboot and played one of my Atmos blu-rays (American Sniper) but I can't find it logged anywhere. Instead there is still a weeks worth of logging it looks like (to me). I may have to do a hard reset to get the log manageable unless anyone knows any log cleanup secrets in OE I went ahead and attached a failed Atmos transcode log and a successful TrueHD transcode log (for good measure) Both were using Emby for Kodi http transcoding Fortunately the atmos list is small http://www.dolby.com/us/en/experience/dolby-atmos/bluray-and-streaming.html but I can't understand why these are failing only in this specific client Atmos fail.txt TrueHD success.txt
