Hello,

I'm facing a problem on my Apple TV app since yesterday, I have some (many) movies not starting ...

The browsing is ok, everything is fine when I enter the movie screen, but whe I hit the play button, the screen turns black and nothing happens. The counter remains blocked on 0:00 ...

I have to add the playing works fine for some movies, but fails for other ones.

I tryed to move the file to another location to get rid of a disk problem : I still have the issue when playing from this other location

I tryed to play the same failing movie from the web interface : OK

I tryed playing it with dome other apps : OK too.

I ffprobed the movie : h264.

I updated the server to last version (I noticed the problem on v4.7.6.0) : v4.7.8.0.

On Apple TV, I see I have v1.6.4 (dated Oct 13, 2022) - a few days ago, maybe the update broke something.

I see nothing special in the server logs whith the last version :

When starting :

1.6.4 was a short beta and fixing the "Back" behavior added this bug. This happens when there is a rush to release a version. Although the beta period was short, the bug was reported.

It's a good thing you got the point to fix it.

Since this bug affects the playing (well the #1 feature) of more than half of the movies of a collection, I hope you can fix it quite quickly or publish a rolled back fixed version.

Thanks for your help.

Just to confirm this, I'm having the same problem.  With me it only seems to be affecting live OTA tv and recorded live OTA tv.  I've confirmed that live tv and recordings work and playback normally on other devices I have (iPhone, PC).  Like mentioned above, I noticed this after the recent update that changed the back button focus behavior.

Two appleTVs, both started to have issues in last couple of days. Seems to be ffecting 1080p files, 480 ones are fine.

My Apple TV 4K's are also having this problem.  Some content plays, others don't.  I turned off MPV as a test and now the titles play.  Turn use MPV back on and the problem returns.

Server running on Synology NAS DS1621+ v4.6.7.0-704060700, DSM 7.1-42661u4, Apple TV clients running 1.6.4(1), TVos 16.0

Can you try forward a little in the movie. In my case it plays again. Still not good, hope it’s fixed within the next update.

TrishyMouse…forgive me, how do I turn off mpv??

thanks

Go into Inside EMBY App>Settings>Playback  It is the bottom option, changing it will require a restart.

This workaround works for us, thank you.

Manually updated EMBY Server to 4.7.8.0 on my Synology.  The behavior/bug did not change.

spent a few hours thinking there might be a problem with my settings or apple tv, then found this a few minutes ago. Disabling MPV within the app solves the problem and all files play again. - 3 questions:
What is MPV, what does it do and should i have it enabled once this issue is fixed??

Posted

The issue is fixed in the Apple TV beta version of the Emby client. I don’t know when this version will be released as stable …

Thank you that is good to know... Now the wait..

Has the 1.6.5 release helped?

Hi, just updated to 1.6.5 on 2x Apple TV 4K and this issue still persists. Jumping forward ten seconds starts the video but it will just sit at a black screen until I do that.

OK yes that's confirmed and we're looking into it. Thanks.

Also seeing this behaviour, and even when using FF to start the playback, I'm getting some minor audio sync issues that don't happen on the android version.  Right now AppleTV Emby is not great... and I guess there is no practical way to downgrade the client because of the crippling overwhelming apple restrictions.  sigh.

For further investigations i can confirm that on Apple TV 4K 2021 Edition with TV OS 16.1 combined with emby 1.6.5 videos are not playing!

Otherwise Infuse (7) using emby server as media source everything plays fine and fluently.

So definitely a bug of emby client on tv os that is not solved by version 1.6.5

I seem to be experiencing this same issue. It started about a week ago. Videos just sit on 0:00. Tried movies that we have watched before. Tried updating the server to 4.7.8.0. Strangely, it only seemed to affect DVD movies (mkv, transcoded to h264 4.1 high). Bluray rips (mkv, no transcode) play correctly. Per TrishyMouse's suggestion I disabled MPV then restarted the Emby client and the DVD movies play again.

I just want to say to any devs reading this, I've been using Emby for years now and it's almost always a smooth experience. I know all these formats and platforms are constantly changing so mistakes happen. I appreciate all of your work. Thanks!
