  1. I'm running emby on Synology NAS (DSM 6.xx). I'm using iOS 14 Phone / iPad and iMac (Catalina) to play music. I would like to ask wether the lossless audio files are transcoded to be played or not. As far as I understand (see https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001161688-ios) emby can direct play Flac only. ALAC / m4a is not listed. As far as I understand there might be a second bottleneck to overcome: the iOS device "normally" transcodes to AAC before playing. So does the embay-ios app follow this procedure? Or do I listen to hi-res lossless audio? (if my file is lossless audio). In addition - what about m4b? is this format also ready for direct play?

    Basic Lossless Audio

This is a basic dumb newby question, but please HELP. I’m at my wit’s end. How do I get a lossless audio stream to my high-end Marantz receiver? I’m sending the mkv file verified with DTS Master HD from the Emby server on a high-powered Win 10 desktop. I’ve read the Roku client app won’t pass through a lossless stream. So I’m using a new Xbox One/s with Emby Theater connected to the Marantz via HDMI and receiving the served file via fast wi-fi. But I only get lossy DTS. Oh, and I have the Xbox set to output bitstream audio in DTS. Can someone tell me how to get lossless audio to the Marantz either with this setup or some other client device? Ive researched this every way I know how and am about to just give up.
  3. Hello, I’m trying to figure out if Emby will work as my Media Server at home, and so I have a question: What I’m looking for is the ability to stream music (a very large collection), photos (also large), and movies (in that order of preference) from my home server (Windows Server 2016) both on my local home network and remotely (across the internet) to PCs, Android, iOS, TVs, Playstation, etc. Will Emby be a good choice for me? Secondary question: Does Emby support lossless audio? Thanks for your help! James
  4. Sorry if this has been answered but "How will MBT handle lossless audio since it is VLC based?" I thought VLC could not handle lossless audio. Thanks for any info.
