Spaceboy 2565 Posted June 18, 2021 Posted June 18, 2021 so long as i can continue to load emby as i turn the tv on and never see the shield homescreen i'm ok with that 1
Carlo 4552 Posted June 18, 2021 Posted June 18, 2021 As long as they don't go Amazon Fire UI which is bloody awful if you just want your own apps.
Sammy 786 Posted June 18, 2021 Posted June 18, 2021 Looking for a budget TV. Going to Hisense over FireTV for exactly what @cayarssaid..
Carlo 4552 Posted June 18, 2021 Posted June 18, 2021 Personally I've been quite happy with any dumb TV and a MiBox-S in front of it. This of course is for anything soundbar or less audio wise.

CBers 7114 Posted June 18, 2021 Author Posted June 18, 2021 (edited) As long as we can put the interface into App-Only mode, like you can with the Chromecast with Google TV, it'll be OK. There's too much clutter otherwise. Edited June 18, 2021 by CBers

Carlo 4552 Posted June 18, 2021 Posted June 18, 2021 I think replacement home screen apps are going to start getting more and more popular on Amazon and Android boxes. I was thinking of doing a replacement on the FireStick 4K this weekend. 1

That said, I do have a plethora of MiBox s' on hand.. Seven at last count. Maybe a dumb TV will be the best solution after all if I can find one on the cheap.

In that case, just get the best TV for the money and ignore if it's "smart" or not. It's actually getting harder and harder to purchase a dumb TV. That gives you the option to test/play with the built in features or just slap one of your MiBox's on it and call it a day. That's pretty much the approach I go with. 1

Carlo 4552 Posted June 18, 2021 Posted June 18, 2021 I should have said "doesn't have a hi-end audio system". You are correct it's fine for 5.1 or lower. 1

aja07 20 Posted June 22, 2021 Posted June 22, 2021 You get used to it, it's not too intrusive. Been on the mibox about a month now. 1

Not as good as the original UI, which you can make very minimalist. 6 hours ago, aja07 said: You get used to it, it's not too intrusive. Been on the mibox about a month now. Haven't got a choice I've had it on my Chromecast with Google TV device since I bought a few months back - there's too much clutter on the screen.

FrostByte 5257 Posted June 22, 2021 Posted June 22, 2021 Some unhappy people on the Shield forums talking about removing ads, etc. Still haven't seen it on mine

FrostByte 5257 Posted June 22, 2021 Posted June 22, 2021 That could be it. Not a whole lot of details, just a bunch of stuff like "plz remove the $&#^$ ads". I think most of the first 15 threads are all complaining. I did see something about you can install another launcher though, so I may check into that.
