How do I grant access permissions for external drive for Emby?

Hi, I am trying to give Emby access to my external drive on Raspbian. I've searched a lot of different things and have used chmod and chown to try and give it permissions, but to no avail. I am a Linux noob so this is somewhat difficult for me. When I try to add a library from the external drive, I go to the directory that has it, but it's blank. Any help?

Yes, I have. Whenever I do

ls -l /media/pi/External

It shows this:

total 256
drwxr-xr-x 8 pi pi 131072 May 24 21:09 'Media Server'
drwxr-xr-x 2 pi pi 131072 May 25 15:01 'System Volume Information'

There's no mention of Emby in it. I've tried to do the su command to switch the user to emby, it says there's an authentication error. I'm not sure if I need to switch users and run this, but I thought that might be the problem. I am running these commands from the "pi" user.

Hi there, have you taken a look at this?

If I may add, the External drive I'm using is exFAT. I reformatted after seeing that NTFS would be an issue.
