But there is a lot of errors in the logfile about not finding files for some 4.8 version. So Emby won't start. Next step is to just try and copy all files with the settings.

It sounds like your previous attempt to upgrade made changes but you hadn't shared that? Then yeah, moving forward and hoping that works is your option now. If you attach your logs we could see if you have big problems or small ones. It might still be worth trying to upgrade on the old server but make a backup of the emby data before you try again. Copying the config gives you the chance to do it multiple times if needed until it's working again, whether you try that on the Ubuntu host or Unraid.

Did you fully delete the Emby appdata folder or just overwrite/merge? You might have to fully delete Emby on unraid first and then transfer your old server over to unraid. You could also just try upgrading to Emby/embyserver:4.8.0 (not sure of what the first 4.8 version is) and see if that works first 1

I use unraid and have had a solid build and experience, better then when I was using windows server. Delete Emby container and it's image from the docker tab. Delete the emby shared folders from AppData. It will look like this if using the Official Emby image and you didn't rename anything. Now go back to the APPS tab and find the Official Emby container and install that, making sure you do what Neminem said, and to select the version that your last known backup had. Here is the link to the dockerhub repo, find the tag you need for the version you want to backup from: https://registry.hub.docker.com/r/emby/embyserver/tags I just saw you are trying to backup from a backup saved as 4.7.14.0 so use this for the Repository in the template. emby/embyserver:4.7.14.0 Here is what my template looks like, Host Path 2 is where your movies and tv shows(media) goes, mine is set to /mnt/user/ to make it easier to locate, new libraries if ever I want to make new ones. AppData Config Path is where the persistent data is stored, like configs. Once the proper version is installed using the template, and you've logged into Emby, you will need to Install the Backup & restore plugin (or it might be baked in now I forget), you need to navigate to where your backup are. This is also why I have my Host Path 2 set to /mnt/user/ to make it possible to have my backups on a separate share/drive incase the AppData cache dies. You should now be able to click Restore from a Backup and see the backup for the version you installed(which should be the one that matches the backup you're trying to restore). If this doesn't work, I'm out of ideas and would recommend to just start fresh from the new unraid server, that's what I did when I switched from Windows Server 2019 to Unraid. One last thing to do, if your logs show another version or what ever, then you might need to delete the docker image itself by going to the Settings tab > Docker > Set Enable Docker to No, then you should have an option to delete it. Your shares will still be there, and so will all your Docker templates, so you can just re-install the template by going to the Docker tab, clicking Add Container, then start installing one at a time from the drop down list, and it will simple download the images again using the same config and shares and everything you had set the first time. Good luck.
raptorjr 15 Posted November 1, 2024 Posted November 1, 2024 Thank you all for all the help. Yes my problem was probably that I didn't manually remove the appdata folder. It worked to copy the Emby folder from the old server to the new. Then the upgrade of databases and stuff started on the first run. But really great forum, with a lot of help!!! 2 1
icegood 12 Posted June 5 Posted June 5 please, upgrade official documentation in https://hub.docker.com/r/emby/embyserver. Namely, there is no point for publishing of ports if host network is used
Q-Droid 947 Posted June 5 Posted June 5 What update are you suggesting? The network_mode is a configuration choice made at compose/run time. Port mapping isn't used for host mode but it is needed for bridge mode.
kbijvank 56 Posted October 2 Posted October 2 Hi, Does anyone know why the 4.9.1.80 isn't available on dockerhub? 2

Maxxin 5 Posted October 2 Posted October 2 Please update the docker latest tag, it's been 7 months since there was an update there and many users use this tag 1

I believe many people use this tag and it seems like it hasn't been updated for a long time, even looking like it stopped development. My script uses it to update itself, so thank you again... 1
Tur0k 145 Posted October 22 Posted October 22 (edited) Devs, thank you for maintaining the documentation and distros. I am a long time Emby user. Recently, I moved my home server from a Linux VM with no GPU hardware acceleration on a VMWare ESX host to a docker container hosted on an LXC hosted in a Proxmox host. I was able to use the documentation to prepare my new Emby server in docker ( I use Portainer as a gui front end for docker). It took a little fiddling to get the docker compose setup. the directory binding in docker is different but not unlike what i was already doing with NFS shares on my old linux emby server. using the documentation, i was also able to pull my last full backup and restore it to the new docker Emby server. I repointed my Nginx proxy manager to the new Emby server and had minimal downtime. I had some fiddling and dev work to get my Nvidia 3080TI running vGPU with intel IOMMU sharing the device from the host to the LXC, and then to the Emby server docker container. this isn't well documented anywhere really well. most people will just raw pass it. I was on a mission and had to pull in different instructions from a few different sources and work with my local ollama AI server to finally get a working config. I don't have to hardware transcode often, but it is so nice to be able to do so easily. I have been running testing for the last 5 days or so and am very happy with the results. Tur0k 145 Posted November 11 Posted November 11 (edited) Devs, I am running emby server in docker. my docker compose uses emby/embyserver:latest. Emby Server dashboard shows I am on 4.9.1.80. I am getting a note in the emby server dashboard "Emby Server 4.9.1.90 is Available" I tried repulling the latest and it is still on 4.9.1.80. i checked the emby server docker image on docker hub (emby/embyserver - Docker Image | Docker Hub) and it is showing the latest channel was last updated 1 month ago. What is the update cadence on the latest branch for docker? Edited November 11 by Tur0k

It was interesting. how are you liking it? do you have it running as a VM or docker inside your zorin install? Here I run a 3-node Proxmox PVE cluster. I run stand-alone VMs for network monitoring, SIEM, Proxmox backup server, and Truenas for SMB and NFS shares. Everything else runs on LXCs (Linux Containers). Most of my other internal applications are now running on docker instances hosted on the LXCs. I use Portainer to manage the docker instances. I am pretty new to containerization up until this year I was running most things as VMs on a vmware esxi hypervisor. Edited November 12 by Tur0k
mikeraburn 69 Posted November 12 Posted November 12 CasaOs inside Zorin 18. Your setup gave me a headache reading it. I'm very basic. The Beelink Me Mini came with Win11 home on the 65GB built in drive. I wiped it and tried TrueNas, hated it, and it also gave me a headache, then I found Casa Os and Zorin 18. This is just for Emby. I SMB stuff over the network off of my DS216play to the Me Mini when I need it. The three 4TB hard drives and the Me Mini are still under the costs of a bare bones NAS. I also don't need a raid. Stuff is manually backed up to a 24TB external Seagate. If I happen to leave some files I know where to go get them again. I want easy. 1

CasaOS is like training wheels for people new to docker it has an app store and then form like GUI for setting the variables for it. Since you're already using portainer I wouldn't switch to it. Once you get used to docker compose you'll never want to go back. I use to run lxcs in proxmox but it's annoying for migrations because the they have to be stopped vs a VM can be live migrated. Also way easier to do proper smb mounts. I know you can do it with lxcs if you make it privileged but I wanted then isolated from host.
mikeraburn 69 Posted Wednesday at 09:46 PM Posted Wednesday at 09:46 PM I prefer Casa OS is "Docker for Dummies", like me! Point and click I looked at Zima OS and that is overkill for me. 1

I am a geek from the old guard. By day I am an it manager. In a previous work life I was a network engineering, prior to that I was a systems administrator, and before that a system analyst/PC tech. Hypervisors, VMs and central management for me are table stakes. I tell people all the time don’t bite off more thanks you can handle. I think CASA OS offers a very simple and elegant offering for new entrants into home hosting/labbing. I will likely point people in this direction when they ask how to get started. Emby is just one service I host on my network, I also use my home network as my lab. I am doing a lot of stuff with honing my cybersecurity skills, AI abilities, and scripting familiarity.
