Betelgeuse 14 Posted March 24, 2019 Posted March 24, 2019 I would like to see a setting for adding a password for server access. Like on Netflix, you have to give a username and password for access. Password for individual users should be optional. I can't see this should be a big deal to implement. Settings for this access should not be connected to the forum account. Simply create a user/password in the server interface.
rbjtech 4916 Posted March 24, 2019 Posted March 24, 2019 In Manage Server | Server | Users | <user> | Password - simply set a password for every user ?
Betelgeuse 14 Posted March 24, 2019 Author Posted March 24, 2019 I don't want to set passwords for individual users; I want a password to connect to my Emby server
abescalamis 83 Posted March 24, 2019 Posted March 24, 2019 I don't want to set passwords for individual users; I want a password to connect to my Emby server That feature already exists, it is basically the same thing rjbtech advised you, when you set a pasword to a user that password will be the same to access the server, you can also set which user can manage or who do you give access to the server.
Betelgeuse 14 Posted March 24, 2019 Author Posted March 24, 2019 (edited) No, you don't understand what I mean. I have one user with password set (admin). That does not affect the login to the server at all. When someone enter http://<my_ip>:8096 they have full access to all my videos, and can as well chose among my users (except admin). I do not want passwords for each users, I don't want password when on local LAN. Only when accessing from the internet, and just one password. When logged in my family can easily switch users without fiddling with passwords. Think Netflix! Edited March 24, 2019 by Betelgeuse
rbjtech 4916 Posted March 24, 2019 Posted March 24, 2019 (edited) ok - so set each user with the SAME password (excl Admin), which is used for Remote Access Only - and then tick the 'Easy Pin Code' for each user as well but don't set a code (as per the instructions). This will allow them access to Emby via a LAN without needing a password, but they will all need the single password you set in the first step for remote access only. Further advice is to make sure these users are not 'managers' and ensure you have removed 'delete' permissions per account as you wish. Edited March 24, 2019 by rbjtech
ebr 15574 Posted March 25, 2019 Posted March 25, 2019 I don't want to set passwords for individual users; I want a password to connect to my Emby server The only way to connect to your server is by logging in as a user.
Betelgeuse 14 Posted March 25, 2019 Author Posted March 25, 2019 The thing is I do not want unauthorized people to even see existing users on the server. I would see a login BEFORE the screen with users appear. When at home connected to LAN there is no need for such password. I have a DDNS service from duckdns.org. When someone has my duckdns address for HTTP or FTP they simply have to add the port number for Emby, and voila!, they are in checking my movies etc. Well, I have changed the port number for Emby, but still is not satisfying.
ebr 15574 Posted March 25, 2019 Posted March 25, 2019 Hi. Then you need to make sure all your users have passwords. You can also hide the users from the login screen if you wish.
Betelgeuse 14 Posted March 25, 2019 Author Posted March 25, 2019 Thanks for the tips you have given me. I hope there will be a future update that gives this option. :-)
