Hi, what happens when you try to update?

I get this message {Failed to update "Emby Server". Operation failed} in the notifications

Can you please shutdown emby server, then follow the instructions on our website to install the latest version on top of your existing version:

https://emby.media/download

Please let us know if this helps. Thanks !

I'll try it right away.

The Package Source was already in my list and Trusted Publishers was already chosen so I tried to install again and I got the same message. It doesn't start the download just shows me the "Updating..." in green

Posted

It's a large download and may just be taking a little time. Did you try just giving it a little time? Thanks.

I don't touch it. It shows "Updating..." then after a few minutes it displays the error

@@solabc16 any ideas on how we can get more info about what happened? Although it sounds like a download timeout to me.

So what should I try next ? It's haven't been updating since last November and I've missed a lot of the cool upgrades

Hello @@baderkoot

Thanks for the information, this error would only happens if directory structures that should be in place following a normal installation are missing.

Please can you post the output from the following here:-

ls -l /var/packages/EmbyServer/scripts/utilities/

Best

- James

Hello @@baderkoot

Ok, after you've logged in and switched to the root user, run the following before the send logs utility.

mkdir /var/packages/EmbyServer/scripts/utilities/logs

Best

It worked, Thank you very much!

If it's not asking too much, would you mind explaining what was wrong ?

I still haven't figured out what the problem was.

Hello @@baderkoot

That's great news, thanks for the feedback. No problem, here's the additional detail...

- - - - - - -

It looks like an attempt was made to update the package from 3.2.40.0-1 to 3.2.50.0-1 on 2017-12-21 at 21:08:29 UTC. This upgrade was abruptly interrupted part way through the process, do you recall the system crashing or losing power?

The end result was that the package's directory structure wasn't as expected when attempting subsequent upgrades, hence the upgrade aborting with the error message you first reported.

- - - - - - -

We'll use this information to see if there is anything we can learn from this to improve the process and/or make it more resilient in future releases.

Best

Hi @@solabc16...

Well, we do have power outages frequently here because of this old building so I keep UPS units on most of my gadgets. Unfortunately the budget didn't allow me to include the NAS in the mix. So I say it's might have been caused by a power outage, yes.

Thank you for your help and your time, I really appreciate it
