Hi,

Emby Server needs to stop creating metadata, cache, transcoding-temp directories automatically.

I have my server paths set to:-

Emby data: /srv/.config/emby

cache: /media/cache

metadata: /media/metadata

transcoding-temp: /media/tmp

With Emby's current control, the directories end up being:-

cache: /media/cache/cache

metadata: /media/metadata/metadata

transcoding-temp: /media/tmp/transcoding-temp

Ideal outcome:-

cache: /media/cache

metadata: /media/metadata

transcoding-temp: /media/tmp/transcoding

so why not just point emby to the directories 1 level up?

This is do to users pointing these paths to the same location, so each custom path creates the folder name subfolder  So you will need to do as mastrmind11 suggested and point each one to /media to get what you expect..

I can't in Ubuntu. I get an error saying it is not a valid path.

Yeah, sorry, there is no way we can do this due to what Happy said.  Someone points their "cache" folder to the same place as their metadata folder and then wonders why their metadata gets blown away periodically.

Why can't I set /media as a location then?

We'd have to see a log from when you try to do it but it sounds like a file system or environmental issue.
