Roku beta password issues

Recommended Posts

I am completely new to Emby, and I am checking it out with the new Roku beta client.  I setup my account with a password and an easy access PIN. I could not get the PIN to work on the new Roku beta client, it kept prompting me for my password.  Since that was such a pain to enter in my password each time, I went on the server and "reset it" and did not set a new one.  The Roku beta client however keeps prompting me for a password.  I am able to authenticate by leaving it blank and just hitting enter.  It seems the Roku client does not realize I no longer have a password initially because it brings up the password prompt.

So there are a couple follow up questions I have. One, how do I get the PIN to work?  The Roku is on my local network. Two, what is stopping someone from manually entering in my server IP and logging in to any one of my users?  I have 5 users created currently, do they all need passwords?

Thanks!

If you setup external access to your server then, yes, you need strong passwords on all accounts.

Once you get logged in, try going into settings in the app and turn off the "remember user" option.  Then log out and re-start the app.

I actually already have that setting off so my wife and kids can just choose their profile upon startup.  When I choose my profile, it prompts for a password even tho I removed it.  Also, how do I get the PIN to work on the Roku app?

Thanks so much for the quick reply!

The app doesn't really care about whether it is the PIN or the regular password.  The server takes care of that.  So I guess we'd have to see a reproduction of that issue to try and figure out what is going on.

if you could reproduce the problem and then send the log from the app and also post the server log from the same time period, maybe we can figure it out.  Instructions for both are in: How to Report a Problem.

Thanks.
