3D MVC MKV playback from Emby Theater?

What, if any, are the solutions for playing 3D movies in MVC MKV Format from Emby Theater? @, Or, am I better off playing 3D blu-rays with PowerDVD?

I find scattered threads on the topic, but nothing definitive or detailed. It looks like the solutions are PowerDVD to play the original blu-ray or something called Stereoscopic Player. It appears the ET doesn't natively support 3D, which is what I saw tonight quickly trying out a new 3D movie.

What do people do for 3D from Emby Theater on a Win10 system? Thanks!

It looks like support was added for that in LAV 0.68

I don't use any 3D, so maybe you could let us know if it works? But you need to use madVR 0.90 or higher, for your renderer.

You can probably use this to point you in the right direction.

The current Emby has the latest versions of LAV and madVR. And madVR is set to output 3D. But ET isn't producing 3D (with madVR on).

That thread talks about needing MPC-HC. Do you know what it is and how it relates to Emby Theater?

It shouldn't make a difference. LAV and madVR do all the work. Unless there's an issue with electron, which I doubt. Unfortunately, I don't have a 3D TV to test with. We may need to enlist @@babgvant's genius, on this one

Yea, I experimented with using madVR's 3D rendering from within Emby's player, but it currently won't work.  I believe this is because Emby will NOT allow madVR to use Exclusive mode.

I set up an external player filtered rule for anything tagged 3D.  It launches MPC-HC, and this works fine.  madVR can switch to exclusive mode, and successfully outputs frame-packed 3D to my TV and it functions well.

Thanks for that. I'll check it out and see how it compares to launching PowerDVD to play the ISO.

I've also got Stereoscopic Player to try.

I'm running Stereoscopic player as an external player and it's great. However, displaying subtitles is an issue in full screen mode as they can't be configured to be shown. You have to be in window mode to select which subtitle track you want once the video file has been selected. Not very Emby friendly. I have emailed the developer numerous times about this, but disappointingly they have gone unanswered, especially after shelling out €40 for the s/w!

That's good to know. I don't know what I'd watch in 3D that has sub-titles, though some action movies have them occasionally.

You'd be surprised. Many of the recent Marvel ones have the odd subtitle creeping in. Here's a list of Blu Rays that feature subs - not sure how definitive it is though. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1nAMVVnmk3vSaUiuFXcN7D0R69FHIP4tfIkTdThTkXEk/edit#gid=20

Sometimes it takes a week to recognize the obvious: PowerDVD, which plays 3D blu-rays, plays 3D mkvs. It's already set as my ISO player. I added it as external player for 3D videos too.

I haven't explored how it handles subtitles yet.

It's got a quirk where the mouse cursor stays visible in the center of the screen unless I move it. I hope to figure out how to get the cursor to auto hide.

PowerDVD 16 Ultra looks like the winner!

I added a second "External Player" option within Emby Theater with options of "Video" and "3D", calling PDVD (exactly as you do to call it to play ISOs).

The mouse issue is addressed by mapping "F5" to a remote button:I have to toggle in and out of full-screen to start, but the mouse then fades and all is good. And PDVD in-movie main menu, activiated with "L" key, accesses subtitles during playback.

When the movie is over, quit PDVD and Emby comes back to the fore. And all of this is driven with a universal remote mapped with FLIRC.
