Sony Android TV - audio out of sync

Recommended Posts

hi,

just got a Sony 4K android TV, (KD43X8305CBU) and testing Emby on it.

everything is OK apart from the audio sync which is out.

if i adjust the audio sync when playing a movie to -200 then it is ok, however i have to keep doing that every time i play something.

the movie files i have are MKV x264 with DTS audio track (just the 1 audio track).

i set the Emby app to downmix to stereo (as i'm playing just on the TV with the TV speakers).

so i'm not sure if the problem is a TV setting or an Emby setting.

i don't have any audio sync issues with Netflix or Amazon Video (which are pre-installed on the TV).

and when i used a nexus player i didn't have any audio sync issues either.

example of one movie with problem

So the item is not transcoding, correct?

Sounds like an issue in VLC's downmixing of the DTS track.  Not positive what to do about it.  Are you sure it is completely consistent across all of your items?

How do I tell if it's transcoding or not?

There doesn't seem to be any on-screen info to say either way.

I only have one platform, android TV.

When I had my Nexus player the file played fine (although that was thru Plex)

I have now replaced it with a sony android TV and now trying to use emby.

This file played fine previously, now doesn't with emby.

It's consistent with the few I've tried so far.

Just tried that. I still get audio when set to direct and the audio is now in sync.

So down mix to stereo isn't needed then it seems?

sadly the issue is not resolved.

i'm having the same problems with a file that has a 5.1 EAC3 audio track.

current app settings are

Audio Output - Direct

Bitstream Dolby Digital audio - YES

Bitstream DTD audio - YES

If you turn on the "Debug options" in the app settings it will tell you on the OSD.

Or you can look at the server dashboard during playback.  Also, you can observe what, if any ffmpeg logs are generated by playback.

Yep, thanks.  That means it is transcoding which means the issue is probably either with the source or created by the transcode.

Luke, is this an ffmpeg issue?  Is it something that could be fixed by a different version?

I guess it is also possible it is a problem with the TV itself...

Plex appears to play it OK on the same TV.

And the file plays fine with vlc on laptop.

The TV runs android TV 5.1.1

Well it's almost 11pm here, so it won't be tonight. Unless the server saves logs from when it was played earlier this evening.

The logs look OK to me. Since a lot is about to change with the video player it's probably best to reevaluate with the next update to the app. Thanks.

If you join the open beta it will be very soon.  It would actually be interesting to see if there is any impact on that TV given it is running an older Android version.

i'm still in trial mode at the moment.

I'm not gonna pay for the app until i'm sure it's gonna work for me.

so joining the beta probably isn't going to do much good.

The beta will respect your trial period and allow you to see if things work better with the upcoming version.  There are some good changes there.
