MSattler 387
Just playback has been off, and it works better playing it with the native player on the Shield, with the 4k movie share mounted to the Shield. It gives me True-HD too. Although I gotta say Archos is friggin slick. Using it as an external player with Emby. I have DTS-HD, True-HD, and a pretty decent interface. It works with 4k and with 1080p content. If we can make resume work, and playback status, then this is going to be a winning solution. Shit.... I'd be willing to pay extra for Emby, if you got Archos to agree to let you license their player for Emby. Out of the box it can play directly from SMB as well, Emby Server is no longer the middle man at home. This is like my final solution if we can get resume, and progress working. Archos Media Player isn't a replacement for Emby server.
MrWebsmith 598
i tend to like the "simplicity of just sticking with the internal player" but im going to test archos as a ext player (browse in emby first of course).. on the setup in my main area where the additional HD audio formats would be applicable thanks guys
MSattler 387
You still need Emby server for your other clients. Archos Media Player isn't a replacement for Emby server. I did not mean replacing Emby Server. What I mean by eliminating the middle man is this: If I am watching movies from home, with Emby and Kodi, I can have Kodi access movies directly via SMB. This means that if 3 movies are being watched, at say an avg of 30Mbps, I do not have 90Mbps going into the Emby server from the Storage server, and then 90Mbps going out the Emby server to the client. Instead the traffic goes from the Storage server over to the player. It just means less unnecessary traffic going through the Emby server. It means there is more Emby Server resources available for remote users.
MSattler 387
What do you mean playback has been off? Just curious, thanks. So far, with the Android client I have not been able to get 4k content playing correctly. Typically it's playback issues, but almost always it was being transcoded to 1080p, defeating the entire purpose of having 4k content. With the Archos player and the Emby client, I now can play 1080p/4k content, directly off of SMB, and I get True-HD and DTS-HD.

joshroblee 4
Hi, are you looking into using archos as a built in player as this seems to play everything I have perfectly??? Thanks
ebr 14949
Hi, are you looking into using archos as a built in player as this seems to play everything I have perfectly??? I don't believe that will be possible at this time. Archos is a commercial product and is not available for us to embed.
joshroblee 4
Hi, can you please tell us the plans you have for this. At the mo I have 3 android boxes and only the Amazon fire TV 4k that does about 90% of the videos, rokus that are looking a bit old with the layout(including blue neon) and raspberry pis that aren't supported because the kodi plugin is too unstable. The server does a great job but you just dont seem to have a decent player. Premiere would be my next step when i get a fully working player to play my videos. Luke 37180
Hi, do you also use the mobile app? if so, how is that one handling the videos? i ask because it has some newer things the tv app doesn't have yet. thanks.
RanmaCanada 355
Hi, can you please tell us the plans you have for this. The server does a great job but you just dont seem to have a decent player. Premiere would be my next step when i get a fully working player to play my videos. As I've already stated, they use VLC as the internal player, and VLC android support is spotty at best. The reason an external player option was added was because of the horrible support VLC has for android and that a lot of non mainstream boxes weren't working properly. There is nothing wrong with using an external player like SPMC, Archos, MXPlayer or anything else. Find what external player works best on your hardware and use that. As for the Pi, the Pi's are complete crap for anything other than basic media streaming as they don't support a lot of media playback. Your other option, is to replace everything you have with a Nvidia Shield. The device has 100% VLC support, but it's also $200. If you expect Luke and company to make an app with an internal player that will work 100% on every single piece of hardware, well you better expect to be paying 10x the price you are now for premiere because that would mean hiring an entire team of coders and testers. joshroblee 4
So why not use an internal player that has support for more than a couple of devices??I dont want this to become a bitching match, I just want to try decide if Emby is the best for me.Sorry for this but "other app" is supported on raspberry pi and can play any 1080 video and passthough audio. Luke 37180
See my previous question. We are constantly working on improving the player.
