Recorded TV Issue

Will do.  I just can't decide how or if I want to do it.  I really wanted to keep emby to just using http and not having users setup network share folders.  Even if I do it, its not a 100% solution because in the case where the user wants to watch a file that is in the process of being recorded its not clear whether to use an http stream so that emby can detect that the file is still growing, or just let it play the active wtv file.  In the first case trick play won't work, in the second case the playback will end early.  Do you have a preference?  I can't help thinking it would be cleaner to send the media info, but I may not be anticipating all the problems there either.

i'm probably a minority here, but we rarely ever watch recorded TV shows while they are still recording, it is always done after the recording has finished. also i don't know if this matters but in my setup WMC records the shows to a d:\recorded TV folder, but then i have a script that runs every hour that moves the WTV files to my server in a shared recorded TV folder. serverwmc sees both folders and everything, other than this issue, works with that setup.

It's fine, I will add the ability for you to send back the media info if that's what you end up preferring.

For what its worth, The only things we watch live is sports. Pretty much everything else is after the fact.

Same as bmoses I'm more than willing to be a guinea pig.

I have a pre-release you can test (1224).  You can get it from here:

http://bit.ly/swmcBeta-1224

See the settings on the http service tab of serverwmc.  It enables you to set http streaming for live tv and file-based playback for recorded tv.

@@krustyreturns - Installed.  Have http for live TV, but not for recorded files.  Right now I'm checking just from the web browser interface.

Live TV is playing now, ...  Pausing is working.  Backing the program up works, but when you FF, it doesn't to have any rhyme or reason for where it goes, and you can get stuck significantly behind where live is...  I can't rememeber how well it worked before though....

Recorded TV is also playing.  FF and rewind having no issues.  Resume also seems to be  working.

Media info also populated after some time....

Thanks for testing so quick.  Live-tv should be just as it was before for http mode.  Mainly the change to use the file paths instead of http for recorded tv files, while simultaneously keeping http mode for live-tv.

you are awesome!!!!! i will do some more testing tonight when i'm at home with the nexus player and fire tv stick, but i remoted into my desktop just now and installed the patch and did some tests through the web client player and everything looked good so far!! i will need to apply this fix to my parents setup as well, should i use this beta version or will a "formal" release happen soon?

quick question i've been meaning to ask but not related to this issue. in serverwmc on the "recordings" tab there is an option to remove info/commercial files when a recording is deleted. I added in "JPG" as a file extension to that section so that when i delete a recorded show from within emby it would also delete the JPG poster file that emby creates as well, this doesn't appear to be working though as the WTV file gets deleted but the JPG file is left. any thoughts on why that wouldn't be working?

Thanks.  Does emby create the jpg poster in the same directory as the corresponding recorded tv file?  With the same name as the wtv file (excluding the extension)?

it does get created in the same folder, and has the same name as the file but adds a -poster to the end of the file name. sometimes there are XML files in the folder with the recorded TV shows and those get deleted OK. so presumably they aren't getting deleted because of the -poster added to the name.

Yeah, that's why.  I didn't write this part of swmc, but I will take a look and see if there is something q&d I can do.

Just double checking, the jpg file name is:

WtvFileNameWithoutExtension-poster.jpg

correct?

sorry to bump an old thread but this issue appears to be back. i'm on serverwmc build 1229 and emby server 3.0.5943.0. when trying to watch a recorded TV on either the web player or android TV on my nexus players i can not resume, FF, or rewind. I tested on emby on my android phone and it works fine there. i also tested emby theater and it works there, but it was also direct streaming on that.

when i try to FF the counter resets to 0 and then nothing plays but the counter starts counting up. i will upload the transcode log in a few. @@krustyreturns @@Luke

attached are 2 transcode logs from an attempt to play a recorded TV show.

As a test, can you try adding that recording as an emby server library and then play it once the library scan has completed? in other words, just make a test folder and then setup a home video library. Thanks.
