Trying to install the Server - latest release. I cannot get past the language selection. It is just a blank drop-down, and clicking "next" does nothing.

Windows Vista. Firefox.

Adblock turned off. Admuncher turned off.

I checked the forums for similar problems. I noticed at least three (3) other people over the past several months posted the same issue. No certain solutions.

Frustrated. This occurred at the end of a long line of problems installing the software in the first place (related to Windows blocking me - "protecting me" - from installing the setup.exe.) I got past that. But this one? I'm too burned out to trouble-shoot on my own. I really don't want to update every add-on like shockwave, flash, java, etc, in Windows to see if it "might" fix the problem.

Any help would be appreciated. Better yet, a final solution for other people who'll eventually have the same problem in the future.

Even though I was burned out... I updated everything for Vista.

No change.

Tried running the setup through Firefox (latest update), Internet Explorer 9, and Chrome.

No Change.

It does not seem to be a browser issue, or an OS update issue (Vista).

UPDATE

I also updated Java, Shockwave, and Flash, and still... No Change.

...

I don't think I'll go the Teamviewer route - thanks though.

I basically give up at this point. I'll check this post later and see if anyone has any insight.

This is a problem - installation issues.

It is also sad because I have used the previous version(s) of Media Browser for years.

I think the only way to get it fixed is if you allow Luke to try and figure this one out. Since he offered to connect via Teamviewer to try and sort it out, it's not something you should turn down, lol. He's offering this since he's never been able to reproduce the issue. You are experiencing something that 99% of the people are not seeing when installing.

Anyway, it is your decision...I just think you should reconsider.  :)

I hear you, but I'm not into letting someone remote into my system. I'm sure it is a great way to solve problems. Everyone has their limitations. This isn't a common problem, but it is surely not unique - I found several threads discussing the same issue. Unfortunately, there is not a specific solution or work-around. Everyone has unique setups/browsers/security/add-ons/etc.

My point is that there are too many variables in play when installing from within a browser. The setup .exe appeared crippled from the start - being unverified by Microsoft, and being automatically blocked upon running it. I have never experienced these problems with any other program over the years. I am sad that I won't be able to use Media Browser anymore.

Other than that, I have no other complaints. Oh, wait, how could I? I haven't even gotten that far. Hmm... maybe installation issues should be addressed with priority. Without install, no other problems exist.

what version of chrome did you try with? does vista have an IE 10 upgrade? IE9 has not been getting as much testing these days.

also, do you know the IP address of your computer? you could try running the setup wizard from another machine or tablet or smart phone

Are you running the installer with admin privileges? When you download the setup.exe choose save, then right-cick on it and choose properties. Pay special attention to the compatibility and security tabs.

You said Vista, right?  That's not a typo?

Seems to be an issue with Chrome with fresh install, i performed fresh install tonight and chrome is my default browser. Got the same issue could not select language, tried clearing cache in chrome and did not work.

Steps i done to fix the issue.

1. Close chrome & Emby Server.
2. Open IE and clear cache and restore advance setting and restore personal profile.
3. Close IE and re open and set IE to default browser and start Emby and was able to select the language.

Hi, I am running Windows 8.1 and am having the same problem as the OP. The Startup Wizard shows the screen to pick the language, but the dropdown is empty and clicking the Next button does nothing. Consequently I am stuck and unable to install the Server. Any suggestions?

P.S. I get this error whether I use IE or Chrome, so it (most likely) isn't related specifically to browser settings.

try clearing your browsing data

Thanks, I tried that, didn't help.

I would try again because there's been several reports of this lately and every single one has been resolved by clearing browsing data.

This is happening most likely because you re-installed but your browsers still have data from the previous installation. The new server is then rejecting the http requests. This is resolved for the next server release, but until then, clearing local browsing data is the way to fix it.

I've seen this before, in my case, I was able to fix by deleting the cookies,(may be unnecessary), and making sure you use the URL "http://localhost:8096" or "http://<IP>:8096" and NOT "http://localhost:8096/mediabrowser", "http://localhost:8096/emby" or whatever when you first setup.

Might not be your issue, but it's worth mentioning.

I believe Emby Server is not compatible with Vista. Uninstalling impossible without brutal folder removal from /userprofile/AppData/Roaming/Mediabrowser*. Emby Theater client, no problems, also uninstalling goes without any errors. So one had to decide not to try to install the Server version to Vista computer because it is useless.

vista should be fine as long as the .net framework 4.5 can be installed

I have had this same thing happened... after the tenth try I gave up and reinstalled the server on a different machine

I did everything I could think of system restores, uninstalls, different browsers.. never fixed the machine is still sitting idle waiting to fix..

I don't know if this will work for everyone, but I was going at my connection via server name aka http://webdev01:8096and I had this exact same issue. On a whim I changed webdev01 to it's IP address (http://192.168.1.40:8096) and it came right up. Not sure what it's doing in the back end thats causing the issue, but this fixed it for me. Hope it works for someone else too.

Cheers,

Nice find.  That probably points to some sort of caching issue at the browser level so clearing the browser cache would probably have worked as well.

Good morning,

I am having a similar issue. I have tried 3 different machines (all windows 10 fully updated) and can't get past the language setup screen. I am interested in using this app as the one I am currently using has limitation. I await a reply.

Greg
