nospotify 130 Posted February 14, 2024 Posted February 14, 2024 I continue to experience the same problem with Music Library: Sort Title in nfo file is being overwritten by Emby. Example, this album with "...Meets the Saxophone Masters" as title, for which I changed SORTTITLE to "Meets the Saxophone Masters" (removing the starting ellipses). See images below: edited nfo has different Title and Sort Title, as do source files as viewed ion MP3Tag. Per @Luke's new guidance, I went into Folder view, did both Scan Files and Refresh Metadata on that folder and all its contents, but you can see in last image that nfo has been reverted to old, incorrect Sort Title. Log file is also attached. Why is Emby still not respecting either existing nfo nor embedded metadata? embyserver.txt
Luke 38812 Posted February 14, 2024 Posted February 14, 2024 @wordloveralbum and artist nfo files are currently write-only. Reading them will be implemented in a future release. Thanks.
Happy2Play 9140 Posted February 14, 2024 Posted February 14, 2024 Just now, Luke said: @wordloveralbum and artist nfo files are currently write-only. Reading them will be implemented in a future release. Thanks. Are sort tags read from embedded track tags? Was it something that was added?

Why, and how can this be prevented?
Happy2Play 9140 Posted February 15, 2024 Posted February 15, 2024 Luke would have to confirm but don't believe embedded tag sort has been applied for any field. albumsort albumartistsort artistsort composersort 1

And is @Happy2Playcorrect, that Emby overrules not just nfo files but all embedded sortfield data, and just forces on users a Sort Title that's either externally retrieved or just copied direct from Title?
Happy2Play 9140 Posted February 15, 2024 Posted February 15, 2024 Emby has never used embedded sort as there are several topics on a good idea for future release. And music nfo files have been write only for since i believe 4.6.

So Emby disregarding any user-provided sort info seems to be a significant limitation that would be good to fix soon, yes? Isn't simply prioritizing embedded Sort, then externally retrieved Sort, and only then copying verbatim Album Title a very easy fix to implement?
Luke 38812 Posted February 15, 2024 Posted February 15, 2024 The sorttitle embedded tag in audio files is currently not used, but this has come up before and is likely to be supported in future updates. Until then you'd have to just edit the sort title of the artist using the metadata editor.
