Deihmos 156 Posted November 12, 2022 Posted November 12, 2022 Emby works really well with iptv but it takes almost 5 seconds to change the channel. I had the same behavior with cable tv so didn't use Emby with it. My clients are all android tv with the fast channel change option selected. Are there any settings I can change server side to speed up the channel changing?
softworkz 4495 Posted November 12, 2022 Posted November 12, 2022 Not now, but a future update will make channel switching almost instant for IPTV and comparable to a hardware TV for native tuner reception. 4

Seger 116 Posted February 27, 2024 Posted February 27, 2024 @Evangelium nach Lukas There is an update, I would be very happy about a development in the Live TV area: Fast channel change, both over buttons and loading times. There are certainly still many design options in the UI. Thank you very much Seger 1
Chillout 102 Posted March 2, 2024 Posted March 2, 2024 They introduced fast tuning briefly in a recent beta. IPTV tuning time was almost instant (~1 sec). Unfortunately they had to roll it back because it was causing IPTV instability with some users. Hopefully they get the kinks worked out or find a way to make it an optional setting if its hardware dependent. 1
ardinesh 29 Posted March 6, 2024 Posted March 6, 2024 Dear Emby Team, I'm reaching out to voice my support for prioritizing faster channel change speeds in Emby. As an avid user, I believe this improvement is essential for enhancing the user experience. Given the long-standing request for this feature, I urge the team to consider expediting its implementation. Improving channel change speed will not only delight users but also showcase Emby's commitment to customer satisfaction. Thank you for your attention to this matter. 1 2 1
vdrover 55 Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 +1 for fast channel switching. It even takes 5-ish seconds for OTA channels to begin playback. The same M3U in a dedicated IPTV app is near-instaneous (see “UHF” for example).
denz 453 Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 I have been waiting for faster channel changes since emby got released. Still waiting
daldana 81 Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 Maybe now that the new Windows app has been released, TVNext will be going to beta. 1
arrbee99 1696 Posted December 20, 2024 Posted December 20, 2024 I have no idea how Emby manages to start TV so slowly. I presume its more difficult with all the OSes and hardware it should work on, but NextPVR can manage it. Luke managed it fairly recently (for some of us anyway). Softworkz managed it. 1
DMS11B 2 Posted February 24 Posted February 24 100% need faster switching, TiviMate is extremely fast but missing the server features of emby. I'd totally pay more if the emby folks could get the channels to switch as fast as TiviMate. 1 1

TVnext will be added to the beta following the release of the 4.9 server release, and I have read that it greatly improves the channel start time.. Paul 2
denz 453 Posted February 25 Posted February 25 The way it is going don’t expect anything this year we are already end of February and barely any updates to beta. Its very disappointing with extremely slow progress but it is what it is 1
Carlo 4547 Posted February 25 Posted February 25 The current development/beta is huge in terms of changes from the last release but is nearing the end. Once that is released, the next server development cycle will begin which is when TVNext will be introduced. 1 1

pwhodges 1817 Posted February 25 Posted February 25 @Carlo I thought native support for Hauppauge tuners (i.e. without running WinTV, just using the driver) was included, but it doesn't appear to be listed in the spreadsheet now. Paul
emveepee 125 Posted February 25 Posted February 25 (edited) Tuners are generic so BDA will cover most Windows tuner devices Martin Edited February 25 by emveepee
