I just installed to try it out and so far it works on my surface pro 2 without a hitch.  Playback, browse to, it all works good. I do have one request.. can we have a option to use the windows "play to" function so I can play directly to my TV?  I would love to browse on my tablet and then play directly to the TV.. Having a MB client for windows with touch is great..

The Windows PlayTo should be there.. It's just to start playback of a Movie, swipe out the charms bar, click devices and play.

Hey Kobey.

By default, Windows Store Apps are not allowed to communicate with localhost as it, according to Microsoft, presents a security risk.

To circumvent this restriction, have a look at this. http://loopback.codeplex.com/

That Play-to option requires a other MB client to be open somewhere else on the network. I.e: It does not show my Samsung TV as a "play to device". Only other MB clients..

Ya, if this had the Playto option to send to a networked TV that would be great

It does have that as well.

Like posted peviously. Start playback within the app as if you intend to watch it there. Once the playback has started, swipe out the charms menu (from the right edge of the screen) and click on "Devices" anf then "Play" and you should be able to select your tv.

The downside of this is that the app has to be kept running since that's the machine passing the stream to the tv.

But, that's how the PlayTo functionality works in Win8. Hopefuly we'll be able to do tis an anothr mnner in the future.

Ahh, ok I guess I misunderstood the problem then.  I'll give this a shot.  Thanks 7

Installed and it loads a video file and all its information, but when I click play the opening wheel spins around and I get "The video failed to open", "Retry" after several seconds

Tried mkv, wmv, and avi files.  Get the same error

Win8.1 PC, Dashboard thinks I have RT though

Server Version 3.0.5083.27698

When trying to play music files (wma) it kicks me out to desktop mode and restarts the app

@Airbender Yes, you just need to make sure you've installed the free Wiundows 8.1 update.

Same issue for me except I don't see the client on the dashboard even though it is open and trying to play a file.

Fixed after following the thread and uninstalling shark codecs and installing LAV codec from MB Theater.
