Dramatically Reduced Transcoding CPU Usage
New "just in time" HLS transcoding will dramatically reduce cpu utilization after the initial client buffering period. You'll now be able to enjoy more simultaneous streams and have more peace of mind about your server's resource consumption. The apps that will benefit from this are the mobile web client, Android, Android TV, Fire TV, Chromecast, Windows 8

The Emby central server will be down for a short time on Sunday May 17th as we upgrade our infrastructure. We expect the downtime to last less than an hour and it will take place sometime between 10:00pm and Midnight, Eastern Daylight Time (Monday May 18th 2:00am - 4:00am UTC/GMT).

Emby for Android TV Now Available on More Devices
A quick follow-up to our brand new Emby for Android TV app makes it now compatible with any device running at least Android 4.2.2 (JellyBean) as well as providing a few nice enhancements. All of the following enhancements will be available in both the Google and Amazon (Fire TV) based apps.

Thanks to the efforts of a new community member, a new plugin is available in the catalog to generate Roku seek thumbnails.
This provides a nice visual experience when seeking on the device.
In Roku language this is called Bif trick mode, and the thumbnail generation process creates a .bif file. It even has an option to save the .bif file alongside your media for easy archiving.
Important Note: The process to create these thumbnails is slow and will affect your server's CPU

Today we pushed a release for our Windows Phone app (8.0.66.0) which sees a massive improvement in streaming and what the app is requiring the server to transcode.
So what does this mean? Basically, if you have a video in your collection that your Windows Phone device would be able to play natively (as if you dragged the video onto your phone from your PC), then the server will know that it doesn't need to transcode the video, it can do a direct stream to your phone. This decreases the load
