Emby Server 3.0.5621 Beta Released

This is a small release that brings a few important improvements. Here are the highlights.

Dramatically Reduced Transcoding CPU Usage

New "just in time" HLS transcoding will dramatically reduce cpu utilization after the initial client buffering period. You'll now be able to enjoy more simultaneous streams and have more peace of mind about your server's resource consumption. The apps that will benefit from this are the mobile web client, Android, Android TV, Fire TV, Chromecast, Windows 8.1, and iOS (coming soon).

Faster Video Start and Seek Response Times

You'll notice this in almost every app, with faster, more accurate seeking.

Improved Transcoding Image Quality

We've cleaned up our HLS streams further by eliminating the first few seconds of artifacts that have been previously visible at the start of the video, as well as after seeking.

New Video Player OSD

The OSD for the web client video player has been revamped, allowing in-playback access to important information, scene selection, and more.

Improved Internet Explorer Playback

The web client in IE will now finally enjoy the full feature set that users have been accustomed to with other browsers. That means the new OSD, improved seeking, and more.

New Slide Down Menus

The web client also has new slide down menus will give you quick access to the most important features without having to navigate and switch context.

Mac Server Improvements

Mac users can now finally restart the server using the web interface.

  • Support VIDEO_TS.nfo
  • Fixed DLNA resume with Panasonic and Samsung TV's

So many problems with this update. Server crashes, Android application not playing and I am having to reboot the PC to solve the problems.

Please post in the forum with more information so that we can diagnose. Hopefully that is why you're running the beta, to help us test it and smooth it out before it goes public.

is it also released for ubuntu? i have switched to beta in the web interface and restarted emby, but it still says that my version (3.0.5607.2) is up to date.

Sorry but this is my first time with the beta and i have already searched google and the forum.

Can you add a tag for this on github?

For Ubunt and CentOS packaging reasons, Luke is no longer tagging beta builds. However, if you look at the commit history on the dev branch, he does always have a commit with a message noting the build number.

Really liking the new OSD for web video player. It was something I had wanted to see for some time but just never had the time to try to implement myself. Nice job! :)

Where can I get the latest beta from? I cannot find it on github in Emby.Releases/Server?

With the new Video Player OSD, the info is visible for movies. However it is not for Live TV. Has this been implemented yet or is there an additional step for Live TV? In Emby Theater.
