    Overview: Tuner hardware

Tuner hardware receives television signals and exposes programme data through a supported local or network interface.

A tuner must match the signal and provide a usable route to the server. Network tuners place part of that route on another device; named product families add their own supported interfaces. These pages connect the receiving hardware and its interface to Emby's source path.

    • TV tuners
A TV tuner and frontend select and recover a compatible broadcast data path, while demultiplexing and media decoding perform later service and picture/audio operations.

    • Network TV tuners
A network TV tuner performs broadcast acquisition in a separate device and exposes channel/control and media interfaces over a supported local network route.

    • HDHomeRun
HDHomeRun exposes model-specific broadcast reception through a network source whose channel inventory, stream acquisition and diagnostic fields have separate scopes.

    • Hauppauge tuners
Hauppauge tuner integration depends on the specific receiving model, region, host driver/application route and exposed service resources.
