Overview: Tuners and television sources
Live-TV sources connect a tuner, backend or channel resource to the server's available programme streams.
A source can be a local tuner, a network tuner, an adapter or a listed network resource. Capacity and access conditions then determine which programmes can be obtained concurrently. This branch separates that source relationship from reception quality and from the guide entry describing the programme.
Tuner hardware
Tuner hardware receives television signals and exposes programme data through a supported local or network interface.Live TV backend adapters
A Live TV backend adapter connects Emby to an external acquisition/service interface, translating source identities and operations while the backend retains its own hardware and resource responsibilities.Extended M3U channel lists
An extended M3U channel list associates source URLs with channel labels and attributes, while actual stream access and programme timing remain separate operations.Source capacity
Source capacity determines which live-TV streams or subscriptions can be active at the same time.Encrypted TV channels
An encrypted television service needs a supported acquisition, entitlement/protection and media path; recovering its broadcast data alone does not provide playable programme content.Clear QAM
Clear QAM refers to relevant unencrypted digital cable services carried through a compatible QAM reception path, rather than to every cable channel or every QAM system.
