Ponyo 22 Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 (edited) Hi all, Following up on my other thread http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/31661-emby-not-transcodingplaying-certain-files/. Decided to make a new thread as I now know what is causing the issue. Long story short, .ass and .vobsub (.zlib might be an issue as well) are making the emby server transcoder crash as soon as I'm doing anything other than direct playing/streaming a file. I am talking about .ass and .vobsub subtitles embedded in a .mkv, I did not test external .ass and .vobsub subtitles. Embedded UTF-8 subs are transcoding fine. What happens: Play any file without subs direct stream -> OK Play any file without subs and lower the quality -> OK Direct play/stream any file with .ass or .vobsub subtitels -> OK Make emby server transcode any file with .ass or vobsub subtitles -> Crash. When crashing: Turning on subs when there is something said actually gets me one frame that displays subtitles so it does seem the server is transcoding them. However after that first frame transconding stops and the timeline jumps to 00:00 and nothing happens. ffmpeg.exe on the server is still using the cpu, making it look as if its actually transcoding but the android app doesn't play anything. In same cases trying to exit the app (clicking the back button) makes it hand and when pressing the home button audio starts playing in the backgroud... only way to make this stop is to disconnect wifi or force stop the app. How can I make sure emby is properly transcoding those subtitles formats? PS. I'm willing to provide logs but emby creates about 10 different ones. Which one should I upload? Edited February 21, 2016 by Ponyo
Luke 42083 Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 Hi, thanks for the report. For log files, supply each one that was modified during the timeframe of your testing. thanks.
Ponyo 22 Posted February 22, 2016 Author Posted February 22, 2016 Hi, thanks for the report. For log files, supply each one that was modified during the timeframe of your testing. thanks. Here are all the log files. Order of playing; No sub, no transcoding Sub, no transcoding No sub, transcoding Sub, transcoding -> crash This file contains vobsub subtitles but the same thing happens with .ass subs. I can provide the logs for such a file as well if needed. server-63591762491.txt transcode-0fb9c0ae-8070-4066-aab1-264a46ed4203.txt transcode-1f221f69-3d76-4332-8313-eded1817c904.txt transcode-4a7f1c68-0267-4e27-99cd-ff24fdadf4dc.txt transcode-7fc9335c-dae9-4dd7-a400-7ef5c8a5cd3d.txt transcode-669a64bb-d608-4949-91d5-1a1526f76f4d.txt transcode-10114356-6ff4-4065-97cf-528f48614108.txt transcode-cdfddff3-7a16-4a09-b8b1-00950b4ac9c6.txt
Ponyo 22 Posted February 23, 2016 Author Posted February 23, 2016 (edited) Hi Luke, I don't want to be push but did you had a chance to look at the logs? I'm itching to order parts for my htpc At the least could you confirm if those subtitles formats are supported when transcoding? edit: The other day I also tried playing a file with a .ass sub through dlna on my tv. Worked for about 5 seconds before crashing. When I get home I'll upload the logs for that as well. Edited February 23, 2016 by Ponyo
Luke 42083 Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 i don't see any obvious problem here. i am going to need a sample file, thanks.
Ponyo 22 Posted February 23, 2016 Author Posted February 23, 2016 Luke, I've sent you a PM with regards to the sample file. I've did some more testing, all files are playing fine when transcoding for playback in Firefox (vpx, vorbis). However, both the android app en dlna aren't working as soon as I enable .ass/.vobsub subs. The transcoder shows these files as being transcoded to h264/aac. Containers are different too but forgot to write them down. Could it be an issue with the formats Emby is trying to encode these files/subs to? I've attached the created when play the .ass sub file on my tv. Strangly no transcode log is generated by the tv does show a error after which subtitles stop playing (right before that its actually showing subs). If I open the .vobsub file, it does generate a log but no subs are shown. The tv is a 3 ~4 year old LG. The Yen signs are slashes. server-63591849432.txt
Ponyo 22 Posted February 24, 2016 Author Posted February 24, 2016 Luke, I've sent you a PM with a link to a test file.
Luke 42083 Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 The transcoder isn't crashing, but rather the android video player doesn't like the output for some reason so it stops playing. i'm looking into it.
Luke 42083 Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 I've put a fix for android up on the open beta http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/24350-android-open-beta-testing
Ponyo 22 Posted February 26, 2016 Author Posted February 26, 2016 Luke, Thanks, the new version fixed the problems with the files I initially reported. Though I did come across some other files with .ass subs that have the same issue. Is there any way I can provide you with the android logs? I also discovered that my mom is unable to play some files that I can. The only difference being that in her case audio is transcoded to mp3 (Galaxy S5 doesn't appear to support aac) and aac to my device (HTC One M7). She is using the latest stable and not the beta though.
Luke 42083 Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 Yes logs are good, additional samples files are great too: http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/15638-how-to-report-an-android-problem/ Thanks.
