scottie 7 Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 (edited) I'm having trouble getting the PlayOn plugin to play any video. I've configured as per instructions and I can browse around all the content just fine, so the plugin is retrieving info from PlayOn just fine. But when I try to play any video I either get a short video that says: "The Media Player you are using is not supported by PlayOn" Or I get nothing. I can browse PlayOn directly in a browser and play the same video(s). Versions: Media Browser Server: 3.0.5309.26857 PlayOn Plugin: 1.0.0.4 PlayOn Server: Version 3.9.22.8877 Media Browser Server Log and Transcode Log attached. Server log has 2 attempts to play a HBOGo movie and 2 attempts to play a random NBC video. I guess I must have something configured wrong somewhere, but I'm unclear what that might be? Edit: also attached screenshot of "The Media Player you are using is not supported by PlayOn" message being played. server-63542350871.txt transcode-41906e5e-a1fa-4976-812b-6ac16616700a.txt Edited July 30, 2014 by scottie
snazy2000 343 Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Very strange not seen that before i will take look
snazy2000 343 Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Have just tested. they both work fine for me and there shouldnt be any config wrong becuase its pretty simple. Im pushing a new update that you can try
Chuck 17 Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Keeping an eye out for the update. I'm having the same issue with the "The Media Player you are using is not supported by PlayOn".
snazy2000 343 Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 What did you view @@Chuck Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
Haubrija 1 Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 I'm not saying this is or isn't the issue, but in the past, I used a Media Center plugin for PlayOn called Tubecore. Tubecore has since gone defunct and no longer exists. For a brief period of time, the developers of Playon had an issue with the way that Tubecore implemented the Playon services and made it so TubeCore could no longer play videos from Playon. Eventually, the parties settled their differences and Tubecore changed the way it operated to fulfill Playon's needs. Again, I'm not saying that's what occurred here, but the error message being reported reminded me of Playon's behavior during the Tubecore incident.
bored_n_2003 2 Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 same here but I've had playon for a long time should that matter maybe an old config on the playon server and i have tubecore relating to the last comment so have not been able to get playon to work yet
eist1 2 Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 (edited) I just installed this tonight, originally had issues where in Netflix wouldn't play on my WMC PC. I uninstalled Plugin restarted server, then reinstalled plugin. Then going back to Media Browser, it played fine on the WMC PC. I am getting a codec error when trying to run Netflix on an Ceton Echo Extender. Should this work on an Extender? I am running 1.0.0.6. Thanks Edited July 31, 2014 by eist1
snazy2000 343 Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Again I need to know what you tried to view so I can try and work out what's going on Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
eist1 2 Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 I tried going to Playon, Netflix Channel, then to Action & Adventure folder then 6 bullets, then hit Play, then I get the error message Cannot Play Video The file type is not recognized and cannot be played. Either the correct codec is not installed or the file is corrupt. Do you know what type of file would be streaming to the Extender? It is a Ceton Echo Extender. Thanks
snazy2000 343 Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Not sure about extenders I've never had much luck with them at all :/ Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
scottie 7 Posted July 31, 2014 Author Posted July 31, 2014 @snazzy2000 I just updated the plugin to 1.0.0.6 and still have the same problem. Speaking of TubeCore, I have that installed as well, haven't used it for 12 months or more, so I fired it up, it works fine to. I don't know how TubeCore works internally but I think it just gets Media Center to play a stream directly from PlayOn, it doesn't have the ffmpeg transcoding step in the middle (I'm guessing). I can't imagine my ffmpeg is handing out different user agents than yours when it requests the stream from PlayOn. Let me know if there's any other tests I can run at my end to figure this out.
snazy2000 343 Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Can you tell me what you views to get it please and does it do it on everything. Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
eist1 2 Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Tubecore is a DLNA Client, and just connects to PlayOn directly, as PlayOn runs as a DLNA Server. If The PlayOn Plugin could just connect to PlayOn via DLNA without Transcoding that may work.
scottie 7 Posted July 31, 2014 Author Posted July 31, 2014 yep, does it on everything. last thing I tried was using Media Browser in Chrome: Channels -> Playon -> ABC -> ABC -> Popular Clips -> America's Funniest Home Videos - s24e01 - Smack Smack Smack! -> Play
scottie 7 Posted July 31, 2014 Author Posted July 31, 2014 (edited) I also grabbed the transcode log and tweaked it to have the media PCs IP address in it and tried running ffmpeg from a different machine with all the same parameters. The file produced was the same. Update: see my next post I wanted to rule out CPU limitations as the issue. Edited July 31, 2014 by scottie
scottie 7 Posted July 31, 2014 Author Posted July 31, 2014 (edited) Scratch that, running ffmpeg from a different machine with basically the same parameters produces a watchable file. So perhaps its a lack of CPU power at my end? PlayOn does chew a whole lot of CPU and then MBs ffmpeg tries to step in as well and perhaps it all just falls in a heap. Or perhaps its something to do with being requested from a different machine/IP address? Edited July 31, 2014 by scottie

coolspot 18 Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 I've tried local media files through playon and extender and haven't had problems. Haven't tried Internet channels yet though, but I can confirm it works on xbox 360 extenders.
snazy2000 343 Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 I really dont understand why this error happens ive tried a fix but its hard for me to debug as i dont get this on any channel. Ive pushed a new version (1.0.0.7) can you all try and restart your playon server and then try the new plugin
scottie 7 Posted August 1, 2014 Author Posted August 1, 2014 New version (1.0.0.7) behaves the same for me. I've tried configuring with IP address to 127.0.0.1, I've tried the machine name and I've tried the machines external IP address, all behave the same. I've tried basically the exact same ffmpeg arguments from a second machine to the PlayOn server and they work fine. I even went into the plugin cache to find a different video url that PlayOn hadn't tried to stream yet to rule out any possible issues PlayOns caching might give. So it seems like its got to be something about running on the same machine or perhaps the amount of resources available on that 'same machine'. @snazzy2000 when you test, are you running MediaBrowser and PlayOn on the same machine? Another thought, are there any PlayOn settings that can/should/might be altered?
snazy2000 343 Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 Yes it's on same pc using 127.0.0.1 try enabling mobile access if you haven't already Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
scottie 7 Posted August 1, 2014 Author Posted August 1, 2014 Yeah, already got mobile access enabled.
