lardners 7 Posted August 3, 2020 Posted August 3, 2020 Hi, Multiple versions of movies is not working for me. Both versions appear in the drop down but both versions are pointing to the same file (Kingdom of Heaven.mkv) under path in Metadata, so I can only play one version. I can't play the Directors Cut. Below is how the movie folder is setup: The same is happening for all other multi version movies.
Solution PenkethBoy 2066 Posted August 3, 2020 Solution Posted August 3, 2020 try a couple of things 1 main movie change its name to "Kingdom of Heaven - Original" or similar 2 add a space either side of the dash for the Directors cut then you should have two entries in the drop down pointing to separate files one of Original and one of Directors cut 1
Happy2Play 9355 Posted August 3, 2020 Posted August 3, 2020 How did you group those items as they do not meet the required naming convention? Each version must begin with the folder name, followed by " - ". https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001159102-movie-naming
lardners 7 Posted August 3, 2020 Author Posted August 3, 2020 I have made changes as suggested but still have the same problem. Only one version can be played even though both appear in the dropdown Both versions are pointing to the same destination file, Kingdom of Heaven (2005) - Directors Cut.mp4
ebr 15577 Posted August 3, 2020 Posted August 3, 2020 Why do you think both versions are pointing to the same file?
lardners 7 Posted August 3, 2020 Author Posted August 3, 2020 Apologies, I was over thinking this, it is working now after a server restart and the suggested naming changes. Thanks all for your time. 1
Anderella 13 Posted October 26, 2021 Posted October 26, 2021 Hope it's ok, if I follow up here: I can't get the versions of a movie working, I tried as I found in the help-section and here, still no success. Tried adding " - Extended edition" to the folder name, and/or the movie filename, see screenshots. (also tried without spaces, like the trailer naming, still no success. Trailer playing works great btw) Screenshots enclosed, movie-version is always added as a new movie. (Basically I use the NFO-reader to get the movie infos)
Carlo 4547 Posted October 26, 2021 Posted October 26, 2021 You file names are not correct. <base name>space-space<versions> So for example: TOWN-HRES_[BLURAY] - 1080.mkv TOWN-HRES_[BLURAY] - Extended Edition.mkv That will then show a drop down with two choices: 1080 Extended Edition Check the section Multi-version movies on this KB article: https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001159102-movie-naming
Anderella 13 Posted October 26, 2021 Posted October 26, 2021 Thx for your comment and help, I tried - but still no success. Renaming my main movie with adding " - 1080p" didn't help, see screenshots. The extended version remains a separate movie. (Library rescan done, Emby App closed and restarted)

(Library rescan done, Emby App closed and restarted) You folder/file naming ain't correct, if you followed KB article @cayars linked, note: Quote Each version must begin with the folder name, followed by " - ". As you have no accompanying nfo for second version, I assume it remains unidentified, i.e. not linked to that movie due to naming difference (might be an extra or anything). Either rename your folder/movie or try three-dot menu Identify on EE, that might link it to correct TMDBId. 1
Anderella 13 Posted October 26, 2021 Posted October 26, 2021 I will try with second *.nfo But I renamed my movie, like @cayars wrote: TOWN-HRES_[BLURAY] - 1080.mkv TOWN-HRES_[BLURAY] - Extended Edition.mkv 1

Look at the complete structure and naming. /TOWN/TOWN-HRES_[BLURAY] - 1080.mkv will not work as it does not follow the rules. If you do not uses proper structure/naming scheme you have to manually group or use the plugin to auto group. Edited October 26, 2021 by Happy2Play 1
Deathsquirrel 744 Posted October 26, 2021 Posted October 26, 2021 What they're trying to say, without telling you exactly what to name your files, is that they should be named like this: \\SHARENAME\The Town (2010)\The Town (2010).mkv \\SHARENAME\The Town (2010)\The Town (2010) - Extended Edition.mkv Notice that both movie file names exactly match the folder name. The only difference is the " - Extended Edition" string on the longer cut. You could also do something like this: \\SHARENAME\The Town (2010)\The Town (2010) - Theatrical Edition.mkv \\SHARENAME\The Town (2010)\The Town (2010) - Extended Edition.mkv
Anderella 13 Posted October 26, 2021 Posted October 26, 2021 Thx for your comments and hints, I appreciate. Just tried your suggestions and after renaming the folder, in my case, to: TOWN_HRES_[BLURAY] the two versions: "TOWN_HRES_[BLURAY] - Extended.mkv" and "TOWN_HRES_[BLURAY] - Original.mkv" are shown correct. As I'm not sure, how and if I can rename all of my hundreds movie folders to the inside used movie-filenames..... even cause of backward compatibility to my NMT system and EmberMediaManager, I was hoping that the folder name doesn't need to be modified. As the great difference to plex is the option to read and use my previous NFO-files, basically all movies are imported and shown correct. And as the "-trailer" addition to my existing folder/filename structure also works like a charm, I was hoping I could also succeed in "versions" @GrimReaper second nfo file didn't work either. Now I understand, why already converted versions didn't show up as versions in my library right now...... Is there any chance the folder name doesn't affect the different versions in a future release? And could you be so kind and guide me how I could manually group versions or movies? Thank you.

Easiest method is the linked plugin above to auto group based off like metadata providerid, but you just multi-select the items you want to group Random example select two items. 1
Anderella 13 Posted October 26, 2021 Posted October 26, 2021 Again thank you. Sorry I cannot find the menu you are showing, whether on the osx app nor on my iPad.
Happy2Play 9355 Posted October 26, 2021 Posted October 26, 2021 Sorry I don't know the actions for Multi-Select on your platform. I know on my iPhone app it is on the menu (had to scroll down the menu) when I long click on the media.
Anderella 13 Posted October 27, 2021 Posted October 27, 2021 Thank you very much, I found it (after scrolling down on my iPad) - the OSX version doesn't show it. 1
Anderella 13 Posted October 27, 2021 Posted October 27, 2021 Yes, thank you. I managed to group 2 movies together manually. Basically it work's, but the second "Version" of the movie only shows the correct movie title, if the folder name corresponds the filename..... Deja vu Not sure, if I go that further renaming all my folders...... 1
Carlo 4547 Posted October 28, 2021 Posted October 28, 2021 There are a few tools that can do this for. I would certainly not do it by hand.
BuzStringer 32 Posted February 14, 2023 Posted February 14, 2023 I'm Having the same issue, in my main movies library it doesn't work, it another library it does work
