laola 12 Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 (edited) since I moved to Kodi 19 I was also forced to use "next gen for Kodi". and I am regretting very much that I can't use EmbyCon anymore (without other major drawbacks). Synchronizing is working just by chance - I have to manually update the libaries from time to time. Switching from living room to the bedroom and expecting that the playtime is synchrinzed doesn't work in most of the cases... So I am really hoping to get Embuary back and that I can use EmbyCon again - this gave me no no trouble the last 1.5 years.... Edited March 16, 2021 by laola
TeamB 2411 Posted March 16, 2021 Author Posted March 16, 2021 EmbyCon should work fine with kodi 19. Its the skins that are not updated yet, if you can find an updated skin that let's you edit the home screen menu and widgets you can just use that with EmbyCon instead of Embuary for now.

Hi, sorry I just finished to read all the post right now. The first thing I understand from posts is that the current Emby for Kodi is discontinued. Well I'm still on Kodi 18 so I haven't any issue with Kodi at this time, but It's nice to know ahead that when I will upgrade Kodi to 19 version I will have to switch to kodi-next-gen or EmbyCon. I've been redirect here from another user, my issue is that Emby for Kodi cannot be used anymore with EmbyServer after upgrading it to 4.5 version (from 4.5). To be more precisely, from Kodi I can connect to emby server but in the "Play On" feature my Kodi is available no more.. Hope to be clear

harrv 90 Posted July 15, 2024 Posted July 15, 2024 I need to re-install Kodi from scratch and I'm having some trouble. I've had to start over three times. Is there a chance @quickmicor anyone else from the team could update the first post if anything has changed in the last 13 months since the last update? Any updates related to v21 (Omega)? Also, if there is any knowledge on this thread/team about the Embuary skin, I'd love to know the same type of info about that too (and if I can use it with the latest EmbyCon and/or Emby for Kodi Next Gen). If this is useful info... my preference now is to use EmbyCon. I used Emby for Kodi and then Next Gen for years and years and like the speed and the general concept, but had SO many problems with it getting out of sync with my actual Emby libraries (especially if I move something from one library to another, or delete something) so moved to EmbyCon about a year ago and have had a lot more luck with that.

If you are using EmbyCon and having issues setting it up, best to post in the EmbyCon sub forum. Unfortunately the Embuary skin is no longer maintained, it has its own thread and there are a few dedicated user helping out there to get users up and running with the latest Kodi releases trying to use this skin. 1
Embodiment 15 Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 I successfully installed the EmbyCon plugin on my 5 year old Kodi system. The Add-On status on the top of thread indicates stable up through version 19. My Kodi is running 20.5. I am at a fork in the road now having spent an entire 3 days researching and testing my Kodi setup with Emby. I have Emby server running on my Qnap-TS233 and I also have four external NAS units storing my media (movies and TV Shows). I've read many posts with some suggesting the EmbyCon plugin is improved and that it is highly recommended. ---Still other recommend the Emby Next Gen add-on. The latter sync's the database with Kodi as I understand it. My Kodi has the database also on the Qnap-TS233 in a MariaDB. I run Kodi on my Android TV and Windows 10 PC. I went with Emby primarily for my android tablet as there was no Kodi skin that worked smoothly with it. The Emby interface is great on my Samsung tablet. What would I gain by going the Emby Next Gen add-on over the EmbyCon plugin??? Finally, if I may ask, I have NAS 1-2 with regular movies and NAS 3 duplicates. Can NAS 1-2 show up as merged under Movies and NAS 3 show up separately under another title or isolated? Right now as test environment, I just have EMBY seeing my duplicates. IE. I do not want to go to the Movies tab and see my duplicates alongside my NAS 1-2 single copy movies.

You could also customize the skin showing different (server based) nodes on your home screen if that's what you want. It has also a de-duplication function, but only works when the content names and year are absolutely identical. Edited December 23, 2024 by quickmic
