Hi Emby Community.

I have just had help to setup the server on my Synology in a previous post.

But now i  have the same problem as this guy here.

In the post its suggested to follow this guide, which i looked through and everything is as it should be (according to this guide).

As you can see, as per suggestion i typed in the optional path.

I did not have to do this in my TV shows.

As you also can see here the Embysvr has the rights on my Synology.

So what can be the reason for this? Unfortunately the last post stopped after Luke asked for a scan.

My last scan was done here in this Logfile

Hi, are you sure this is the latest log? It shows different library folders then your screenshots..

I ran the update from the old server before this. Can this have something to do with it?

Anyways i just tried to do a scan and i took this file :

It still looks different. What are the folder paths added to your library right now? I don't think they are the same as your screenshot.

They are.

I am logged in the Emby on my Synlogy which is 192.168.1.30 as you can see on this screenshot

Here you see the paths ive put in on both

And as mentioned. Everything works fine with series.

I will try it once i get home.

So i now managed to try it.

And it does not work.

I tried the following:

Change embysvr to owner. (restarted both synology and emby). No change

Changed the Port number, just to see if it was colliding with the existing Windows 7 nuc. No change.

Tried to give all access via groups as well just to see if that had an effect. No change.

So out of frustration i tried to install it on my main gaming PC. Works perfectly here. Nothing done at all other than installing the server and then setting it up.

Scanning as it should.

So it seems that there is something in either Synology thats not communicating correctly with the Emby server or the other way around.

If you have other ideas i will gladly try them.

So again out of frustration i tried to reinstall the server on the Synology, Just adding the Movie folder. Still no scan despite that it finds the folder without issue.

The only thing I see different between this setup and mine is that he has gone one level deeper than me.  "MyEmbyMedia" is my Synology shared folder and then I have movies, TV, etc right under that instead of two levels down

All my media libraries are right under the shared folder, next level down

Movies

/volume1/MyEmbyMedia/Movies
\\MEDIA-SERVER\MyEmbyMedia\Movies

TV

/volume1/MyEmbyMedia/TV Shows
\\MEDIA-SERVER\MyEmbyMedia\TV Shows

Ok but to the person here who doesnt get it.

Why does it then work with TV shows, but not Movies??

But i could ofc try to move them one step down. Just to see if that works.

What groups is embysvr part of?  I'm not sure the video group is still valid, or not

As per default its member of users.

But i tested it with also adding it to videos as you are showing it. Still nothing.

So since this is now a dead post, i'm guessing there is either something wrong with settings somewhere? Or something else entirely?

Just to make sure again: "HELLS_PRISON" is your server name, right? If so, I would ask you to set a fixed local IP for Synology and enter it there.

So for example: \\192.168.178.50\Video\movie

Afterwards please restart the NAS once.

Same issue.

To me this really baffels me. I could understand if i couldnt scan both folders. That i might have a problem with my rights.

But since series works...

I might soon give up and just upgrade this NUC to win 10.  :(

I could offer you to look over your NAS settings and do a security check including emby remotely. Either through a TeamViewer client or Synology directly. A client is better. If you want to do that via PN

I wont mind that. I am just baffeled over why it works with my tv shows. But not movies.

Dont know what country you are sitting in, but im in Denmark. Mainly asking for the time differences..

Hi all,

I had the same issue: Emby not scanning my "Movies" library but working fine on the "TV" library.

I'm running Emby 4.4.2.0 on a Synology DS414.

I noticed just a couple of days ago that new movies were not being found.  Everything was working fine up until then, TV shows and movies showing up just fine.

I managed to solve the problem for now, but I have no idea what, if anything, was changed to cause the issue to start.  I did update the Emby software to 4.4.2.0 - the NAS shows 15/04/20 on the package page which is I think the date of the update.  The last movies that were found before the problems started were put on the NAS on around 05/04/20.  The movies that weren't found came in around 16/04/20.  I have no idea if there's a link to the 4.4.2.0 version or if its coincidence.

During my troubleshooting I tried many times to 'Scan Library Files' just on the Movies folder (no joy), the TV folder (standard counter counting to 100% and finding shows as expected) and a Scan initiated for all libraries together (TV worked as before, nothing on Movies)

I have a USB drive attached to the NAS as an extra archiving drive and I have "Archived" TV shows and Movies on it.  I added a new library "Archived Movies" in Emby and it scanned everything as normal.  Still wouldn't do the "Movies" library though.  I read a post (can't remember where) suggesting that there may be a corrupt folder there, but if there is I couldn't find it.

I guessed it was some kind of permissions problem.

The user "embysvr" is a member of "users" only - I have done nothing special with the permissions since setting up the software initially.

How I solved it ..... for now!

Not an elegant solution and possibly only temporary, but I SSH'd into the NAS, opened the "/volume1/video/Movies" directory and chown'd every file/folder recursively to be owned by "me" and have group "users".

Once I went back into Emby I ran a 'Scan Library Files' on the "Movies" library and it found every movie.  Its still getting the images etc. now so I'll examine the movies it found in the library and compare with the actual directory, but the new movies that came within the last couple of days have been found now.

If any of this information is of any use then great.  Otherwise, good luck.

What i would like to know is, is this an Emby issue with Synology? Or the other way arround a Synology issue with Emby.

The reason why i ask is this might need to be taken up with Synology then?

guys, this is not a mistake, nor is it the fault of Emby or Synology.

Synology or the application to be defined usually defines the right to a user. I think I've written it several times, other threads, ... In the system (DSM), every user is automatically a user, all other users would not be logical. Afterwards, and you have to set this yourself, you give this user appropriate rights like administrator (admin rights). If Synology or Emby would do this on their own, it would be a scream but big. You have to choose the admin rights yourself.

I think the issue is solved now, right? Or do any of you still have problems with the emby installation? If so, please ask us again.

@@wollabille, it's a pity that you didn't report more, but I took my time for our teamviewer session. next time, please cancel if you already suggest a time ...

Thanks and best regards,

Seger
