Strange Behavior - Remote Lock | No Seek | Freezes

abstract

Recommended Posts

  • Remote Freezing - having played a video, upon trying to navigate the menu it appeared that Media Browser had crashed. This occurred multiple times. One time using Task Manager I noticed that MB was actually responding to the mouse (accidentally running the mouse across the screen). These freezes continue - any remote control input seems to be ignored. Can be resolved by exiting Media Browser Classic and relaunching it (though, this is difficult with a remote!) - so it isn't a crash within 8MC itself.

This has been happening since day 1 of Media Browser.

It crashes and causes a loss of focus.

You then need mouse or keyboard input to click the back button

I posted about it years ago.

I spent some years building Media Centre's but  gave it away because it was a support nightmare!

(Nothing against Media Browser. MB is a great and necessary add-on to WMC)

If interested, this happens on all different types of hardware, different OS's at different patch levels.

(I've been in MOE/SOE development for many years and developed an SOE for my WMC's)

It is one of the few things that stops my personal Media Centre's being perfect

  • 2 months later...

Hello.

I've the same problem since long time.

(Win 8.1, Emby for WMC)

When I watch a movie, if I seek forward (30sec with the skip button or when I jump to a chapter of a movie) Emby freezes. I continue to hear the audio ma the screen is frozen. (this error doesn't happen all the time, but too offen, in particular with movies in mkv)

Input from the remote are useless (even ALT-F4).

I've to reboot or to log out. From the task manager I can see WMC not responding, but I cannot close it.

I've some doubt it's a codec issue, but I'm not sure.

I'm using shark codec.

Since some days I'm testing different setup in shark, but no improvements.

Here my Emby log file, after Emby was frozen and the system was rebooted.

Any support is welcome

Thanks Folks

This is a really old topic but the log you posted doesn't show any issues.  I wouldn't expect it to though as, whatever this is, is happening at a lower level than our app.  It is either WMC itself, codecs or, perhaps video drivers.

You are not watching on an extender, right?

Thanks Ebr for the quick reply.

I'm using the Emby for WMC, without extender.

I've the same doubt, that is something lower then the app.

Video driver are updated, and the problem did not changed in the years updating the driver.

I suspect too that it's a coded issue.

I'm trying different setting in shark: LAV, Haali, FFDshow.

But I'm not a codec expert.... can you give me any suggestion on how to move or what to try?

Any other log file that can give some help in understanding the problem?

Thanks

I would uninstall all codecs / codec packs you have installed and then just install LAV and see how it goes.  That should be all that is required.

Thanks Abr,

done.

Just finish to install & configure LAV.

Testing now. I'll come back with the result after some days of test.

Thanks again for your input

:(

Hello Abr,

Test not passed.

Still the same freezing problem, when skipping forward using the film chapters.

I've noticed that LAV filter/splitter, still uses the ffdshow audio decoder. Is it normal?

Ready for any other suggestion...

Please...

Thanks
