Transcoding seems to work, but...

I use a Shield in the theater for movies. It meets all my needs for that, especially since I’ve switched from PLEX to Emby.

I just prefer the overall AppleTV UI for everything else. But I also realize Apple has hobbled 3rd party capabilities, so when I need full capability, I use the Shield.

Losing Atmos/DTSX would be a big deal for me. Which makes Infuse a non-starter.

I’d rather use a single platform, even if it’s on different device types.

Make sense. For me, I'd rather use a single hardware device, don't want or need different devices, lol. We use the Apple TV for so many things, virtually impossible to replace it. Don't mind multiple apps.

I didn't get why you were trying to use Apple TV then for your 4k movie. I guess I missed it was a different room.  But you had that other thread about masking, so, what's your Apple TV hope, to replace the shield one day (unlikely)? A little confused by your Apple TV use in theater room?

I was just testing a movie in the living room, which is AppleTV only. It’s a very rare situation where I would watch a movie in that room anyway so it’s not a big deal.

As for the ATV in the theater, I still use it for everything online. Itunes, Netflix, Vudu, ATV+, Apple Music, Photo slideshows, etc.

I like staying on one platform to not have to keep two databases up to date.

Well, infuse keeps mine up to date without any effort really, other than initial cleanup as that took a little time. I add a movie, Infuse finds it thus far correctly.

You know in the next version or two, they are going to have Emby integration?

But still no Atmos, so still no thrillcat. [emoji6]

If you need audio passthrough (AC3, DTS, TrueHD, ATMOS...) nvidia shield is your device. I use Apple TV for everything and Nvidia Shield as a fallback device. Infuse is a good solution I don't need audio passthrough, but I don't like its metadata management and metadata caching on device. But I have to admit it's an excellent player.

I have a Shield for all theater viewing of movies, so I have access to lossless audio AND Atmos/DTSX.

LPCM is lossless. Except for Atmos metadata of course.

Yes, that's the only limitation.

I'm working on getting a real eac3 encoder, which isn''t lossless (but pretty close at high bitrates) but will add back Atmos.

So, a lot of discussion, but did I ever get an answer for why my video is green and blocky? Is this something that is a known issue? Solution in the works?

Currently 4k that needs audio converted has this issues. I would assume it would direct play without issue if there was a supported audio track. This should be the same as all the other 4k topics.

Ah, yes. Reviewing the thread, here was my answer.
