Hi,

Emby right now handle regular tv shows and movies very well, however it's fell short on Anime support be it directly or via the anime plugin.

There is few features that would vastly make emby better able to handle anime.

1. Absolute order support

seeing as the majority of the anime groups uses anidb numbering, emby fails so hard on it right now, trying anything over 100 as either special or different season. e.g. see the attached photo. "Case Closed - 935.mkv" treated as "Case Closed S09E35", even tho it was not implied.

2. If there is no season folder present in the folder or the filename treat them as Season 01.

Case example, "/media/Anime/Case Closed/Case Closed - (\d+).mkv" , emby would automatically tag them as Season 01 for display purposes.

3. Use Proper anime scanner.

Absolute Series Scanner by ZeroQI possibly the best anime scanner, you could find that can handle all sort of anime naming convictions, if possible try to use it or learn from it.

Hi,

I agree with the suggestions.

One of my difficulties on the anime organisation is the following example:

when the episode "Boruto - Naruto Next Generations - 141[1080p].mkv" is automatically organised, emby renames it like "Boruto Naruto Next Generations - 1x41 - La Force collective.mkv" instead of "Boruto Naruto Next Generations - 1x141 - La Force collective.mkv".

But what is tricky is that I don't have any Smart Matches for Boruto on the "Auto Organize" Plugin.

Apart from that, Emby is so cool and gets better every day.
Thanks for the work, Luke.

The current anime plugin is a community plugin.  if someone who knows how to code would take it over, that would solve everything, or port over Shoka like was done for plex.  It has been dead for quite some time and no one wants to take the mantle, they expect someone else to do the work for them.

The plugin is not dead as I'll continue to help with compatibility updates for newer server releases. But yes for anime specific development an additional developer would be great.

If I knew how to code, I would be on it.

I really hope someone who has experience comes forward.  At this point I don't care if it's from those yahoos at jellyfin or what, but we seriously need this issue resolved and we can't keep forcing you to take this on.

I think this is a very difficult topic. I also ran into some problems with animes:

For some reason, anime metadata is only available for tv libraries, not for movie libraries.

And some series have different orders for the episodes. This happens in multiple scenarios and can be very confuse.

Two examples: "Detective Conan" ("Case Closed" in USA) has some special episodes and these are splitted in multiple episodes outside japan. So in my case, the later in the series, the less the episode titles match the actual episode because I own the episodes from broadcasting in Germany.
The "Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya" has several orders: DVD order, chronical order.
I don't know how Emby would solve this. Probably not at all. Only option is a support for absolute ordering as suggested above. So I agree with this, too.

I also would love for emby to be able to use my already created shoko server but that could take a while. I also agree with absolute numbering. But if I can make an additional suggestion for the anime plugin since it's suppose to be working with anidb. It would work pretty well if the search was made to look for the CRC check. Personally my file already as the format "Anime Episode [crc check]" so I don't need the crc check to be performed by the plugin, but for more ppl support it would help a lot. Once the anime info is pulled from the crc check. Like Title and Title number I would think any other info/picture could easily be pulled by the other metadata downloader like tvdb if some would prefer description from them instead of the anidb one.

I actually check into how feasible my suggestion would be but as far as I could see searching by crc check isn't possible on anidb. Meaning it would need to be searched with ed2k hash. Which mean ashing all file and a new field in the database for the ed2k number. Then a request to anidb.net:9000 udp FILE ed2k={str ed2khash}&fmask={hexstr fmask}&amask={hexstr amask}, FILE ed2k={str ed2khash}&fmask={4000 0018}&amask={60E0 F000}.

This fmask should return(untested) the "aid","description" and "aired date".

This amask should return the "highest episode number","Year", "romaji name", "kanji name", "english name", "epno", "ep name", "ep romaji name" and "ep kanji name".

From there any missing information field could be filled from the romaji/kanji/english name from pretty much any chosen metadata downlaoder.

Sadly while I am able to look up this info I do not possess the skill to program what would need to be done. I only did some visual basic back in the day.

I hope others will be interested enough in this, there are quite a few advantage to ed2k search over trying to parse from file name to get anime and episode.

The major one been you can name your file and sort them any way you want. But it takes a while for the initial scan and quite a pit of processing power and your file need to actually be part of the anidb database.

I'm suggesting this as either an added option to the anime plugin(option to scan like now from file name or the new way by ed2k) or a new plugin altogether.

Another option would be to pool the information from shoko server, as it already get the information from anidb on every file scaned. It's also a good tool for managing your collection.
