squelix 0
Hi, I would like to direct play a movie to my Chromecast Ultra but i can't.... I can't understand why because here https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Chromecast, it says that MKV is supported by Chromecast, but when I try to play it it says "The media is compatible with the device regarding resolution and media type (H.264, AC3, etc.), but is in an incompatible file container (.mkv, .avi, .wmv, etc.). The video will be re-packaged on the fly before streaming it to the device."... Do you know why ? log.txt embyserver.txt
Luke 37064
Hi, this video has AAC 5.1. With AAC audio Chromecast only supports up to 2 channels. They dropped 5.1 support a couple years ago. Does this answer your question?
squelix 0
I didn't know because they say here https://developers.google.com/cast/docs/media that ac2 is supported... But in this case why in Netflix Surround works and why demo movie from Dolby Atmos steram by Emby site works too ? I should buy a Nvidia Shield i guess... Luke 37064
As I mentioned aac is supported, but only 2 channels. Your audio track is 5.1 or 7.1.

Luke 37064
That one should direct play if you select the first subtitle track
squelix 0
I think you mean "the first audi track", but i would like 5.1 :/
Guest asrequested
Shouldn't it support AC3 5.1? Oh, but maybe not 640Kb/s?

Guest asrequested
Try that. And how is your audio equipment set up?
squelix 0
Try that. And how is your audio equipment set up? Still not working. I have my Chromacast Ultra directly on my Sound Bar and it sends all (video and sound) to my TV. Guest asrequested
I'm wondering if your issue is the same as mine https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/79683-casting-from-mobile-to-shield-doesnt-work-well/&do=findComment&comment=829782
squelix 0
What does actually work? This one is Direct Playing, but none of files with AC3, whatever the bitrate, is Direct Playing, only Direct Streaming.

squelix 0
I need to investigate that a bit further. I can't figure out if the problem is from Emby or from the Chromecast.

squelix 0
I tried again others ac3 audio codec video and eac3, ac3 never works and eac3 always work. i'm trying to think that the problem is from the Chromecast...
Solution Luke 37064 Posted January 11, 2020 Solution Share Posted January 11, 2020 No, it's only when it's aac more than 2 channels, or a secondary audio track (non-default).
squelix 0
No, it's only when it's aac more than 2 channels, or a secondary audio track (non-default). So the problem is the Chromecast, if i buy an other Android Box, like Nvidia Shield, it should works ? Luke 37064
Well I don't necessarily consider it a problem, that's just what it supports and doesn't support. But yes the Shield can direct play more formats.
