QNAP ARM CPU: Playback Error No compatible streams are currently available

Edit 5 - Read here please:

My problem is, that Emby doesn't ask me for a ffmpeg path when doing the initial configuration. It isn't offered for my QNAP device.

The default ffmpeg is not working and I installed ffmpeg by myself at /opt/ffmpeg. Now I need to set this path to my default video encoder.

Could someone tell me how to change the path? Probably via SSH?

The custom ffmpeg path is being hidden since a few version updates.

I hope there is still a way to set a custom path.

Initial Post:

Hello,

after installing Emby for the first time on my QNAP, I get following error when trying to play movies:

Playback Error No compatible streams are currently available

This happens for all my devices, no matter if I use a web browser (Firefox, Chrome) or a Android device (Downloaded Emby app from Google Play Store).

I'm using a QNAP TS231-P2 with an ARM CPU (Alpine AL-314) and installed the package "emby-server-qnap_3.6.0.79_arm-x41.qpkg", downloaded from your website. This is the only package which could be installed on my device.

I also installed this ffmpeg package, but it didn't change the behavior:

https://qnapclub.eu/en/qpkg/379

Could someone please help me? I'm in to replace my Plex setup with Emby.

When this works, I'll get the lifetime subscription!

Edit:

Seems similar to this issue: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/54876-playback-error/?hl=%2Bplayback+%2Berror+%2Bcompatible+%2Bstreams+%2Bare+%2Bcurrently+%2Bavailable

I still can't solve it, since I don't see a possibility to change the ffmpeg path on my Emby Server.

Edit 2:

I was editing my transcode path with the mentioned path from above thread:

/mnt/ext/opt/medialibrary/bin/ffmpeg

But it still doesn't work. Same error as before.

Edit 3:

After settings the mentioned transcode path, my log still shows me that the default path for ffmpeg is used.

This seems to be my issue, since the default ffmpeg path doesn't work for QNAP. The error comes up because there is no video encoder found:

*** Error Report ***

	Application directory: /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/.qpkg/EmbyServer/system
System.Exception: System.Exception: No video encoder found for 'h264'

My problem seems to be that it won't change the ffmpeg path to the one I set.

Is it possible to change the path via SSH? Which file does map to ffmpeg?

Hi,

yes, it's an ARM v7 CPU. When using Docker for my other applications, I install ARM32 v7 builds.

If I'm right, best way would be to use the custom ffmpeg build. Is this somehow possible?

Edit:

I tried to follow these two suggestions to force my custom ffmpeg build, but they don't work:

https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/42692-310-custom-ffmpeg/?p=397806

https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/42735-custom-ffmpeg-path-gone/?p=401080

I'm really sad that you removed the custom ffmpeg entry. My issue caused me many hours and I still don't have a fix for this.

Really want to change from Plex to Emby... :(

Could you share the output of:

cat /proc/cpuinfo

I'd like to know if maybe our ffmpeg is built with too many CPU optimizations.

Thanks for looking into this Luke! I'm having a similar problem with a QNAP TS-431P as is found here and in the other threads (https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/66372-qnap-ts-531p-and-emby-server-qnap-36076-arm-x41qpkg/ and https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/51334-new-qnap-package-for-testing/page-40). Like the others, it appears to install okay (QNAP ARM X41, X31+, X31P, X28, X35 - BETA) and will find movies and everything, but when trying to play anything, I get the "Playback Error No compatible streams are currently available. Please try again later or contact your system administrator for details."

error.

As you've said, you're looking into it, but I just wanted to add another data point and let you know that I can test or provide logs if needed. Thanks for your work on this and emby in general!

Hi,

Same error on QNAP TS-431P.

Reverted back to 3.5.2.0

Cbothma - is everything working for you in 3.5.2.0? Do you (or anyone) know where I could download that version to run on my TS-431P until a fix comes through?

Hi, I installed it from the QNAP club store. Everything works perfectly except the covert art plugin does not.

Oh, great - thanks! I just went and tried to install it, but it tells me it can't install. I stopped the newer version of emby first, did you have to completely uninstall it to make it work?

Also, which version did you download? I got mine from https://www.qnapclub.eu/en/qpkg/343. Did you use the x31 version?

Exactly the same error persists on the QNAP no available streams. Will however stream on my android phone but not on any webbrowser or mibox. This is on emby4.0

Yes there are some issues that our ffmpeg builds are having with certain QNAP models. We are still looking into it. Thanks.

so fort Qnap users with this cpu, 3.5.2 is the last known working release.

Isn't that the one with the browser scrolling issues?

Is there an ETA on a fix for this issue?

Thanks

It's a little tough to track down because it is working on some devices but not others. We are working on it.

Thanks. I may wait a bit for a fix though, the only real problem for me is the loss of resume via EmbyCon (Anything I start becomes watched, regardless of how far I get through it)) as I don't really use the web app for viewing.

When I last had 3.5.2, I believe this issue may have been present then anyway, I just cant debug it with the Emby team unless I have the ability to watch via the browser.

Its not a huge deal, its just annoying. Seeing how the issue has been around for a while and as Luke says, the team are working on it,. Hopefully a fix is not too far away.

I'm enjoying many other aspects of the current build to give it away right now!

Yes definitely. Anything involving ffmpeg will have a problem, including probing media to determine the runtime.

I apologize for the slow movement on this, but we are looking into it. Thanks.
