mastrmind11 717
what are you trying to play and what does the dashboard/stats for nerds say for the reason for transcoding? also need server/transcode logs.
MikeEmbyMike 3
Thanks for the reply As I said, I have recently (two days ago) changed to Emby, so I am still learning how to use .....what are you trying to play As I said "When I select either a TV episode or a film, regardless of encoding" This happens for any and every video file .....what does the dashboard/stats for nerds say for the reason for transcoding? I really have no idea where to find this information .....also need server/transcode logs. I am assuming this refers to one of the files in VAR\LIB\EMBY\LOGS that begins with ffmeg-transcode.........txt. These are very long text files which part would you like to see? MikeEmbyMike 3
As it happens every single time, the 'time that I experienced a problem' is since I installed Emy There are more than 50 files (around 5MB of text) Do you really want them all? MikeEmbyMike 3
Many thanks for your help by the wayI think I am getting somewhere, (having read through the log)When I start playing a video file playing on Roku........I down arrow to get playback optionsI see Quality (Auto - 80MB/s) If I hit enter it shows current selection is 400P - 400 Kbps If I then select Auto - 80MB/s and hit enter, the video restarts and the CPU drops to normalOn Video Quality on Emby Settings on Roku I have AUTO [Default] selectedBUT every time I start playing a video file I have to go through the whole procedure again

MikeEmbyMike 3
speechless ? I hear that is unusual ....and it is the same on all 4 of my Rokus 3 x new Express and 1 late model 2 This same happens for every file except the section "If I hit enter it shows current selection is 400P - 400 Kbps" sometimes they are actually already showing Auto - 80MB/s but I still have to hit enter on Auto - 80MB/s to stop PC server transcoding and sending CPU to 95%+
speechles 1920
@@Luke in an older version of the app that bug was present. It was due to calling LoadContent() before setting registry values (aka blonde moment). Once you've set 400KBps it will be near impossible(without using the settings panel) to get it off without always having to use the OSD. Since it only was saving the registry values for the lower values. The higher values appear on their respective Resolution dialog and thats where the not saving to registry before calling LoadContent() was at. I've since corrected that in the Beta and the fixes for that should be going to Stable already. All those fixes are in the latest store version ebr(eric) submitted. Maybe Roku hasn't published the new store update yet? @@MikeEmbyMike What version of the Emby app are you using? Is it the Emby Beta app you are using or the Store Version? speechles 1920
To install the Beta.. Click this link Then login to Roku with your username and password, click the I am not a Robot captcha and click sign in. Once you do it should redirect you to a warning. This warning is there in case you use pirated apps. Roku does not verify the apps. Anyonce can immediately push publish which is how we can get the Beta fixes out so fast. But this allows people to pirate. If you are found to have pirated channels installed on your device your device may not be able to install channels this way anymore. They also will block your device from being able to enter development mode. All of this is fine in our case. Emby is not infringing on any copyright material. Click OK to dismiss that warning and it should land you on the Install page. Click Yes, add channel. That is it. Now go back to your Roku and choose Update from settings. The beta channel will be downloaded to your Roku. After you do this go to settings and change Video Quality to Auto. This should fix the app. Now play your videos and go to the OSD set it to 400 Kbps again. Let it start to play. Then go to the OSD and set it to Auto. Let it start to play. Then set it to 400 again and exit the video back to the detail screen. Now play again and go to the OSD and quality should show 400 Kbps. Change it to Auto and exit the video again. Now restart the video and check the OSD to make sure it says Auto. Edited December 15, 2018 by speechles

This sounds like the issue I asked you about in dev topic (*sorry that was Playback Correction). But in beta channel .128 it applies the last selected option (Don't have the official channel installed). So toggling the resolution via OSD maintains last selected option. DivX/XviD mpeg4 (h263) is supported on some models to play directly. But the AVI container is not supported. This file would have to be transcoded as mpeg4(h263) is not allowed in HLS m3u8 .ts container. That same file remuxed into an MKV would/could direct play depending on Roku model/firmware. Luke 37113
Thanks. @@MikeEmbyMike, when video conversion is necessary, you do understand there will be high cpu usage on the server, right? Our next release, 3.6, will introduce a throttle feature to slow down the conversion process on the fly in order to reduce cpu usage. That means if you have a fast enough system and the conversion process jumps out far enough ahead of your watching position, we have the ability to throttle it.
