ebr 15440 Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 Hi. Please provide the information requested in How to Report a Problem
hussainrayes 0 Posted September 19, 2018 Author Posted September 19, 2018 Hello EBR thanks for you reply attached zip file are the server logs I'm using windows 10 pro, AppleTV both connected on the same lan via cables, the problem is when I'm watching any episode of "Peaky blinders" it play normally for half a minute, a minute, some times it goes to a complete chapter than suddenly without any error message Emby app crashes and AppleTV home screen appears. but if I'm watching same episodes on the same PC that has the server, on chrome's emby, they just work fine like there is no problem. please let me know if you need any more information
ebr 15440 Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 Hi. What is the version of the Apple TV app you are using (shown in the user menu)? (did you forget to attach the log?)
hussainrayes 0 Posted September 19, 2018 Author Posted September 19, 2018 yes sorry I forgot to attach the logs app version is 1.2.14 server version is 3.5.2.0 logs.zip
ebr 15440 Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 Okay, it looks like it is direct playing the file and the player is just crashing for some reason. Can you try lowering the app bitrate setting to a low value that forces the item to transcode and see if it still happens?
hussainrayes 0 Posted September 19, 2018 Author Posted September 19, 2018 I lowered it to 30 and will see what happen
ebr 15440 Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 I lowered it to 30 and will see what happen 30Mb? That is not a very low value. I imagine the item will still direct play. Try something like 1Mb.
hussainrayes 0 Posted September 19, 2018 Author Posted September 19, 2018 now I watched the rest of the 5th episode and everything was fine. at the beginning of the 6th episode some "Oops" msgs started to come for less than a second and continue playing few seconds later app crashes again and end up in Apple TV home screen embyserver-63672976010.zip
ebr 15440 Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 Try turning off the option to automatically play the next episode.
hussainrayes 0 Posted September 19, 2018 Author Posted September 19, 2018 30Mb? That is not a very low value. I imagine the item will still direct play. Try something like 1Mb. Maximum call size exceeded something like that even when 1Mb/s Bitrate is sit after few seconds app crashed again situation is: after app crashes I close emby server compress the logs send them here start emby server again and open the Apple TV app start watching the episode again from the beginning and it starts acting all crazy embyserver-63672976559.zip
hussainrayes 0 Posted September 19, 2018 Author Posted September 19, 2018 Try turning off the option to automatically play the next episode. already did now but I always start the episode from the beginning, still app crashes
ebr 15440 Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 already did now but I always start the episode from the beginning, still app crashes I'm talking about the option that automatically queues up all the subsequent episodes in the season. Is that what you turned off?
hussainrayes 0 Posted September 20, 2018 Author Posted September 20, 2018 I'm talking about the option that automatically queues up all the subsequent episodes in the season. Is that what you turned off? this is what I disabled yesterday allow me to ask .. what does lowering the bitrate do and can I sit it back to max bit rate again ? I forgot to add that the files are on a hard disk that are connected to the LAN and it is mapped on my PC "the server" as a network drive .. does that matter and can cause the problem? or it doesn't matter ?
ebr 15440 Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 Hi. Those were the settings for the web app. Each app has its own setting for that. Look in the playback settings on the Apple TV app.
hussainrayes 0 Posted September 21, 2018 Author Posted September 21, 2018 Hi. Those were the settings for the web app. Each app has its own setting for that. Look in the playback settings on the Apple TV app. ok I've done that now, and it was acting the same, so I've disabled the subtitle also, and it started normal, is there any chance that it was acting like this because of the subtitle? and what does lowering the bitrate do my friend ?
Luke 38880 Posted September 21, 2018 Posted September 21, 2018 Lowering the bitrate will just force it to play in a different way and that may produce a different result. Yes it's possible the subtitles were the reason.

Yes it's possible the subtitles were the reason. thanks for the reply dear .. after looking in the folders I found that I have 2 srt files for each episode.. both are the same but one is downloaded by emby the other was downloaded by me when I add them to the hard drive. but both indeed has different names Peaky.Blinders.S02E01.HDTV.x264-TLA.mp4 Peaky.Blinders.S02E01.HDTV.x264-TLA.ara.srt Peaky.Blinders.S02E01.HDTV.x264-TLA.srt does deleting one solve the problem ?
hussainrayes 0 Posted September 21, 2018 Author Posted September 21, 2018 (edited) ok I've deleted one version and kept the other, but emby on apple tv was till behaving the same way so I opened the subtitle file and the first line goes like this 100:00:00,000 --> 00:00:00,020 " سابقًا " does emby for Apple tv not support text formatting in the subtitle ? because when I disabled the subtitle, it was running smoothly Edited September 21, 2018 by hussainrayes
ebr 15440 Posted September 21, 2018 Posted September 21, 2018 Unfortunately, no. Due to extremely limited support by the Apple platform, we have to render these manually with plain html. We try to strip out formatting but some versions of it or special characters could cause issues like this. As Luke mentioned, we are working on another player with a little better support.
corey 315 Posted September 24, 2018 Posted September 24, 2018 ok I've deleted one version and kept the other, but emby on apple tv was till behaving the same way so I opened the subtitle file and the first line goes like this 1 00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:00,020 " سابقًا " does emby for Apple tv not support text formatting in the subtitle ? because when I disabled the subtitle, it was running smoothly No the native Apple TV player does not support these types of subtitles. We are however, are working on a new player that vastly improves subtitle support. Stay tuned!
