What's the reason my Emby playback is inferior to my video file playback here?
 
 
NB Depending on your browser's codec support you may have to download the file because it's a MOV
 
I didn't experience this issue until upgrading to latest Emby Server 3.5 yesterday
 
Tested with a range of videos and browsers - same issue

Transcoding is required, as no browser supports HEVC, logs would be required also to see exactly what Emby is doing.

That's the resolution it's being transcoded to, not the source resolution.

 

Yep, if you watch to the end of the video I'm using "Auto" so it should be transcoding at/to max streaming bitrate[e] (i.e original quality) but it's not; why not?

Is the low bitrate HEVC ("BitRate":596200) causing the low quality h264 transcode?

Still suffering this issue - got a fix ETA?

 

I'm currently having to use an external player for HD video because Emby playback quality is so bad

 

Surprised to not see more complaints in the forum which makes me think it's just me and this is fixable?

I've done some quick testing and the issue appears to affect all video files using H265 codecs

 

Are there any related Emby dependencies I should ensure are updated?

 

Please check again - I'd really love to know if this is my problem or an Emby problem?

3.5.3.0 was a hot fix to a issue introduced by Chrome 69.  So next release applies to the 3.6 series.
