Emby Theatre - suggestions revolving around external player usage

It would be great if Emby Theatre had the following changes:

  1. Allow the external player to be encased between quotes, e.g. "C:\Program Files\MPC-HC\mpc-hc64.exe" (to lazily add external players)
  2. The ability to turn on or off subtitles from Emby Theatre/the website.
    • The downside of using external subtitles + external player is that I can't jump around the video (primarily for chapter skip)
  3. The ability to choose to play videos via Emby Theatre, or one of multiple External Players... for the above issue, it is usually better for me to play videos via Emby Theatre instead of my external player. But it'd be very nice to have the ability to choose what player I want to use.
  4. Allow the ability to enable/disable external players... though this may not be so useful with the above feature request.
  5. In addition to the {ms} parameter, can there also be a {sec} parameter? I checked VLC and it doesn't accept {ms}, only {s}.

  1. Have website subtitle options also available for Emby Theatre... swapping back and forth between the two is not very convenient.

Hi, all settings should be available in both. Which ones do you feel are missing?

Ok, it's not there because it's not really needed.

The video player embedded into Emby Theater is much more robust than the web app. It can handle .ass subtitle files without requiring the server to burn them in.

Additionally, that's also a per-app setting. Setting it in the web app will not affect Emby Theater.

I think that is a coincidence because the burn setting is saved in the app. It won't affect Theater.

Just tested, with Theater, no problem found, and not burning in. They are working just fine for me.

Is it possible you did not have the track selected?

Yes I have the track selected. I'll correct myself - turns out regardless of burn subtitles settings in webapp, it still isn't showing up for the theatre.

That's just strange. Have you changed any video settings in the app from defaults?

I don't have any video with these subs. Could you share one?

The link in post #6 has the subtitle file for download.

Strange; I've put the subtitle next to other series + selected the track and am still unable to see the subtitles's subtitle.

Here are my logs for when I select the subtitles:

Try installing both server and theater from the website to ensure you're running the latest versions. thanks.

Is it actually being enabled?

What do you mean by "actually"? I did start the video, click on the subtitle icon, and clicked on "Und" (there's no internal subtitles, just the same subtitle file I copied over), and nothing showed.

For the server, I'm using docker (https://hub.docker.com/r/emby/embyserver/), latest (which is supposedly Version 3.4.1.0). I'd prefer to use docker as it's easier to manage/run for me. Last update says a month ago. Is there a newer version that has to be pushed to dockerhub?

As far as I'm aware, the Emby Theater I'm using was downloaded 2 days ago. There's no version/help text that shows the version. But according to my Add/Remove programs, it's "3.0".

Looks like they aren't being enabled.

Can you post a screenshot of the folder contents for that video?
