Guest asrequested
For HDR it uses PQ. The display isn't switched. In my testing, I've it working exactly like it does when the display is switched. What GPU do you have?

Guest asrequested
Nice! Ok, in theater, did you try CUDA? And here's some info on HDR in mpv https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/53211-emby-theatre-support-for-evc/page-7&do=findComment&comment=521624
Allenwalters 1
Yes. I tried all the settings. Ended up leaving it on auto.
Guest asrequested
Can you play something in theater that is oversaturated, pull up the stats and take a screenshot?

Guest asrequested
Ok, that's HDR. So it's playing, correctly.
Allenwalters 1
OK. weird though. The HDR isn't popping up in the corner of the screen when the video starts.
Allenwalters 1
Can you see the oversaturation? White lights look red or blue.
Allenwalters 1
Maybe it's an issue between the player and display.
Guest asrequested
As I said. It uses PQ. It isn't sending the HDR metadata to your tv. Did you take a look at the link that I posted? I may need to make new thread to explain how mpv works. It might help with some confusion.
Allenwalters 1
Now I see why Plex did the same thing. It uses MPV as well. I'm just going to work on getting MPC set up. MPV sucks.
Luke 37067
Well actually it doesn't. I'm sorry that on your system it's having an issue, but it otherwise has been a great choice for us.
Allenwalters 1
I realize it may work well for most but I've spent a lot of time and money trying to get this working only to find out it was the video player. I wish I would have known that to start with. Maybe it's just an issue with the OLED display an this player. Maybe something to look into.
Guest asrequested
You're probably in the MadVR camp. Using MPC with MadVR, as an external player.
Allenwalters 1
Actualluy the K-lite standard codec pack has MadVR built into it as well. I like the K-lite because it works right out of the box without having to do a bunch of stuff to get it to work.
Allenwalters 1
I just want to watch my movies not become an expert just to do so.
Allenwalters 1
I mean I would understand if this was just open source stuff but for a payed service?
Luke 37067
Hi, we're sorry about your playback issue. have you tried setting up an external player with mpchc?
Allenwalters 1
Not yet. I downloaded it and used it to direct play E.T. and it had no oversaturation and no stutter.
Allenwalters 1
I don't know if it matters but it keeps forcing my refresh rate to 23hz. My TV is 120hz. It should at least let me run it at 60hz.
Guest asrequested
Be aware, MPC will by default convert from HDR to SDR. You'll want to add MadVR as your renderer. It'll take some configuration to get to where you want. You can't use D3D11 as that will convert from 10bit to 8bit.
Allenwalters 1
I don't know why I didn't try this before but it is something between my TV and the player. I played E.T. from the server on my PC and it has no oversaturation.
Allenwalters 1
When I went through the K-lite set up it had HDR10 box checked. Will it still go to SDR?
Guest asrequested
I think you may not be understanding what HDR is. The oversaturation you refer to, is HDR. It's a brighter, more vibrant picture. It's an augmentation of the color and light. It's intended to be that way. When I compare the picture in mpv to PowerDVD, which switches my display and forwards the metadata to my display, the picture is same. Your tv needs to be correctly configured and calibrated, to properly use HDR. It isn't plug n play. The purpose of using PQ is to limit the amount of configuration that is needed when passing the HDR metadata to your display. If you're still intent on using MPC with MadVR, I can help.
